This has been one of the biggest propaganda stories in recent years in the Middle East. Just because the US government sponsored the Barzzani-Talbani tribal corrupt autocracy, and just because Israeli maintained relations with that traditional-feudal junta, Western media participated in one of the biggest schemes in media history. The story of Kurdistan was always surrounded with tons of claims of prosperity and freedom without attention to what is happening in those areas. Thomas Friedman and others would go and give a lecture at the American University of Sulaymaniyyah and comes back and tell readers how wonderful things are and that the son of Bargain (or the son of Talbani) is fluent in English. This picture is a scene of a protest in Sulaymaniyyah where people protested corruption and repression. Of course, stolen oil money paid for fancy lobbyists on K street in DC.

As soon as ISIS emerged, March 14 figures supported ISIS and even publicly. This guy, is a major March 14 figure (and is now the man in charge of all media for the pro-Saudi Lebanese Forces) wrote in 2013. It says: “Is ISIS against the Syrian regime: Yes. Is ISIS against Iran? Yes. Is ISIS against Hizbollah? Yes. Therefore I am with ISIS”. This sentiment, by the way, was pretty much the sentiment of Western powers in the region.

The GCC will never be the same and it will never recover from the splits and divisions which came out in the open in full force during the recent crisis. Yesterday, Kuwait banned the mouthpiece of King Salman, Ash-Sharq Al-Awsat, from entering Kuwait due to series of articles (especially the last one) in which `Abdul-Rahman Al-Rashid (who emerged lately as the one who gives the earliest signals about the shifts and turns in Saudi foreign policies). Al-Rashid has been criticizing Kuwait for its “neutrality” and reminding it—over and over again—that it had a debt toward Saudi Arabia because the rightly Saudi army liberated Kuwait in 1991.
