TULKAREM (Ma’an) — The wife of a Palestinian prisoner serving 24 years in Israeli prison gave birth on Monday to a second child conceived using her husband’s smuggled sperm, her brother-in-law told Ma’an.

Ibrahim Hamarsha, the director of Tulkarem office of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), said his brother’s wife, Samira Hamarsha, gave birth to a baby boy named Ibrahim, conceived using sperm smuggled from her husband, who is being held inside Israel’s Ktziot prison in the Negev desert.

Samira’s husband, 40-year-old Yahya Hamarsha from the Nur Shams refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank district of Tulkarem, has been in Israeli custody for the last 15 years. Three years ago, his wife gave birth to baby girl Yasmin using his smuggled sperm.

Yahya and his wife now have a daughter and two sons. Four years ago, the couple lost their 12-year-old daughter Fatima, who was run over and killed inside the refugee camp.

Samira gave birth by cesarean section at the Razan Medical Center for Infertility in Nablus.

“Succeeding to smuggle sperm from Israeli occupation’s prisons and giving birth to two babies in the last three years is a success story in defiance of the arrogance of Israeli wardens,” Ibrahim Hamarsha said.

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Imprisoned Palestinian hunger-striker Muhammad al-Qiq on Friday ended a grueling 94-day hunger strike that has brought him close to death after his lawyers struck an eleventh hour deal with the Israeli authorities.

Qadura Fares, the head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, told Ma’an that while Israel had not agreed to al-Qiq’s immediate release, a “compromise” had been reached.

Israel’s six-month administrative detention sentence against al-Qiq will not be renewed, while his lawyers managed to push the date of his release back to May 21, he said.

The date will mark exactly six months since al-Qiq was detained from his home in Ramallah on Nov. 21, as opposed to six months from the date he was sentenced on Dec. 17.

“The military order will be the last one,” Fares said.

He added that al-Qiq would also be allowed visits from his family, including his wife, two children, and father.

Israel has also agreed to transfer the hunger-striker to any hospital in Israel, although Fares said they had not agreed to transfer him to a hospital in the occupied Palestinian territory.

He said al-Qiq was now accepting medical treatment and was allowing doctors in HaEmek Medical Center, where he has been held for most of his hunger strike, to examine him.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society denied reports on Sunday that Khader Adnan had died, as the 37-year-old prisoner entered his 48th day on hunger strike

The director of the society’s legal unit, Jawad Bolous, quoted the head of Asad Arofeh hospital as saying that Adnan’s health was stable and there had been no changes.

However, Bolous added that the Israeli prison service’s judicial adviser had said that Adnan’s condition was very serious.

The prisoner’s society head, Qaddura Fares urged all Palestinians to support Adnan by any means possible.

Bolous said on Wednesday that “new dangerous symptoms” had appeared indicating that Adnan’s health had seriously deteriorated. “He suffers severe pains all over his body with blue spots on his shoulder and clear speaking problems.”

Adnan, a father of six children, was detained on July 8, 2014 and sentenced to administrative detention for the 10th time in his life.

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — An Israeli court has sentenced Palestinian lawmaker and member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Khalida Jarrar to four months in administrative detention, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said Sunday.

Israeli forces detained Jarrar after raiding her home in the al-Irsal neighborhood of al-Bireh near Ramallah on Thursday night.

An Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma’an that she was detained for being the leader of a ’terrorist organization’, and had encouraged ’terror activities’ in recent weeks.

Head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, Fares Qaddura, denounced Jarrar’s arrest as a “revengeful act” carried out after she refused to agree to an Israeli army decision to relocate her from the Ramallah district to Jericho.

Israeli authorities issued the order last August.
