  • SyrianObserver.com: Syria Will Take Back the Golan and the Sanjak of Alexandretta

Un étonnant article publié dans un journal officiel syrien

    http://syrianobserver.com/EN/Commentary/34632/Syria_Will_Take_Back_Golan_the_Sanjak_Alexandretta

When the war against Syria began in 2011, the Zionist enemy was still occupying the Golan Heights and the Turkish enemy was still occupying the Sanjak of Alexandretta.

Over the years, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to dismantle the conspiracies led by the United States and other colonial powers, in which the Zionist enemy and the Turkish enemy participated. According to the new balance of powers in the region, when the war in Syria comes to an end, the Zionist enemy will be forced to withdraw fully from the Golan without alleged peace deals that follow the Camp David, Oslo and Arabah models. The withdrawal will be without conditions and similar to the Zionist withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000. The Zionist enemy has a crippling fear about entering into a direct war with the Syrian Arab Army, whose military and fighting capabilities have developed greatly and has stunned the Zionist enemy. The enemy has tried and failed more than once to test the Syrian air defenses. Syria is fully prepared to enter into a war and liberate the occupied Arab territory in the Golan.

Of course, the same new equations apply to the Turkish enemy, which will be forced to withdraw from Syrian territory which it occupies, because the Syrian Arab Army and its allies will not accept anything but the full liberation of Syrian Arab territory, which has been occupied by aggressor nations which are either directly engaged in this war or which have been occupied by terrorist takfiri groups who work as proxies for them. After that, Turkey will have to withdraw from the Sanjak of Alexandretta which has been historically occupied and which the Syrian state will not allow to remain occupied. The Syrian Arab Army is ready to enter into a war to liberate it — with God as our witness.

  • China to allegedly assist Syrian Army in Idlib - report
    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/china-to-allegedly-assist-syrian-army-in-idlib-report

China will allegedly assist the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in their upcoming battle in southwestern Idlib, the Chinese Ambassador to Syria, Qi Qianjin, told Al-Watan this week.

According to the Al-Watan, Qianjin told the Syrian daily that the Chinese military is prepared to ‘somehow’ take part in the upcoming Idlib offensive, especially because of the large presence of Uyghur fighters near Jisr Al-Shughour.

“The Chinese military has played an imperative role in protecting sovereignty, security and stability of China. At the same time, it (China) is wanting to take part in peacekeeping operations,” Qianjin told Al-Watan.

  • Kurds make game changing exchange in northern Aleppo to help rebel forces
    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/kurds-make-game-changing-exchange-northern-aleppo-help-rebel-forces

According to local activists in northern Aleppo, the Syrian Democratic Forces will hand-over the villages of Tal Rifa’at, Mennagh, Kafr Karmeen, Deir Jammal, Harbek, ‘Ayn Daqnah, and Mur’anez to the Free Syrian Army.

Initially, the Syrian Democratic Forces seized these villages from the Turkish-backed rebels; however, in some strange agreement recently, these sites will be handed back over.

These villages are located just north of the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions in the Al-Zahra’a Valley, which puts the latter in a rough situation as they prepare for their large-scale offensive in the ‘Anadan Plain.

  • Syrian Army, jihadist rebels reach temporary deal in Wadi Barada
    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/syrian-army-jihadist-rebels-reach-temporary-deal-wadi-barada

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and jihadist rebels have reached a temporary deal in the Wadi Barada area of rural Damascus that will allow government workers to repair the Al-Fijah Spring.

Once the Al-Fijah Spring is repaired, water will be restored to the estimated 5 million people living in the capital city and Greater Damascus area.

In exchange for allowing the workers to repair the Al-Fijah Spring, the government will allow for locals in Wadi Barada to have their cases settled by a amnesty committee and the non-locals to be transported to the Idlib Governorate.

  • Et allons donc: Iran’s attempted genocide of the Sunni Arabs
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20161209-irans-attempted-genocide-of-the-sunni-arabs

The military assaults against Mosul in Iraq and Aleppo in Syria are not as disparate and separate as people imagine. Yes, the cities are located in different countries. Yes, the Iraqi Security Forces are fighting Daesh militants while what is left of the Syrian Arab Army is fighting a collection of Syrian opposition factions which have united under the banner of the “Army of Aleppo”. Yes, Russia is involved in the destruction of Syria whilst the United States is involved in the destruction of Iraq. But be under no illusion, Iran is the one constant in both battles, as well as being the primary beneficiary; it is attempting to destroy the Sunni Arabs.

  • [Map] Russian Marines take over strategic Aleppo highway

ALEPPO, SYRIA (6:55 P.M.) - The Russian Marines will officially replace the Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” along the strategic Castillo Highway in northern Aleppo.

The Tiger Forces agreed to withdraw 1 km north of the Castillo Highway in order to allow humanitarian aid groups, including the Syrian Red Crescent Society, to have access to the roadway.

In addition to Russian checkpoints, the Syrian Red Crescent Society will also have two checkpoints along the Castillo Highway; these will be used to facilitate aid and help civilians trying to leave the besieged areas.

    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/where-is-hezbollah

The recent jihadist offensive in southern Aleppo may have been a surprise for the government forces, but Hezbollah’s absence during the battle was far more perplexing. Did Hezbollah leave Syria? No. Furthermore, per a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) source in Damascus, Hezbollah deployed almost all of their forces to the Greater Damascus area; specifically, the East Ghouta and Qalamoun Mountains. Hezbollah has a large presence in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus, but they are not leading the current offensive, which is something they are not accustomed to in this war. Meanwhile, in the Qalamoun Mountains, Hezbollah seems to be taking a more active role in the battle taking place on the Lebanese-Syrian border. This past week, Hezbollah’s media wing “Al-Manar” reported that their forces carried out several attacks against Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) in the Jaroud ‘Arsal area of east Lebanon. In addition to their presence in Jaroud ‘Arsal, Hezbollah was sighted on the other side of the Qalamoun Mountains, carrying out attacks against Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) at Jaroud Jarajeer, Jaroud Qarah, and Jaroud Faleeta.

The new situation in Syria has led the Lebanese Hezbollah to redeploy its forces and withdraw a significant number of militants from the established demarcation lines – and decide not to be part of the U.S-Russia political agreement. The decision was taken at high command level in Lebanon, ordering Hezbollah to return to the main cities since all military offensives had been put on ice. Hezbollah will have a defensive military role, will protect the already controlled cities but will also take part in hit-and-run tactics in “enemy land”. Since Damascus agreed to join the political process for the moment, Hezbollah won’t go against the Russian-American deal.

On May 25, the pro-Syrian regime Al-Watan daily newspaper carried the following piece by Fares Riad al-Jiroudi: “The Russian-sponsored truce on the Syrian land in partnership with the USA constituted an occasion for launching a new wave of skepticism regarding the real objectives behind the Russian leadership’s military intervention in Syria and the extent of their matching with the Syrian objectives and the objectives of Syria’s allies at the resistance axis especially since the Russian keenness on preserving the truce coincided with decisive Iranian statements expressing a willingness to support the battle of the Syrian Arab army until the cleansing of Aleppo and its suburbs entirely.

“This wasn’t the first of its kind wave of skepticism in the Russian position from within the media circles affiliated to the Resistance axis. But it seems that this wave will subside just like previous waves as the Russian Defense Ministry declared that the unilateral response to the truce breaches will start on May 25 (today). However, this shows that an important number of the Resistance axis’ journalists have so far failed to assimilate the complications of this war that Syria and its allies are fighting against the takfiri groups and their supporters, mainly Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar…”

    • Premiere of Najdat Anzour’s new film “Mortal and Dispersing” held at Opera House-Video – Syrian Arab News Agency
      http://sana.sy/en/?p=67885

      30 January، 2016

Damascus, SANA – The premiere of director Najdar Anzour’s new feature film, “Fania wa Tatabaddad” (Mortal and Dispersing), was held on Saturday evening at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts (Opera House) in Damascus.

The film, which has a runtime of two hours and 15 minutes, tells the story of Oum Nour (played by Rana Shmais) whose 11-year-old daughter is abducted by ISIS to be married off to one of the terrorist organization’s “emirs,” and how the daughter is rescued by Syrian Arab Army forces from the clutches of ISIS. The film also tells the story of a number of women who were abducted, tortured, and abused by ISIS.

Anzour’s visual style sought to portray the dark and appalling reality of international terrorism and the horrendous practices of extremists who impose Takfiri ideals, burn books, and rape women and children in the areas they control, underlining the contradictory mentality of terrorists who preach ideals and slogans in the name of religion but commit all sorts of obscene acts and violate people’s homes and believes without any moral or humane inhibition.
      ...
The film is produced by the National Film Organization and Anzour Production Company, and the premiere was sponsored by Syriatel and Ninar FM radio.

  • How US-Backed War on Syria Helped ISIS – Daniel Lazare
    https://consortiumnews.com/2016/03/31/how-us-backed-war-on-syria-helped-isis

Since the Times claims to have “several hundred” surreptitious contacts inside Syria, the charge that Assad’s troops fled without a fight may conceivably be correct. But it’s hard to square with reports that the Islamic State (also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh) had to battle for seven or eight days before entering the city and then had to deal with a counter-offensive on the city’s outskirts. But even if true, it’s only part of the story and a small one at that.

The real story began two months earlier when Syrian rebels launched a major offensive in Syria’s northern Idlib province with heavy backing from Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Led by Al Nusra, the local Al Qaeda affiliate, but with the full participation of U.S.-backed rebel forces, the assault proved highly successful because of the large numbers of U.S.-made optically guided TOW missiles supplied by the Saudis. [See Consortiumnews.com’s “Climbing into Bed with Al-Qaeda.”]

The missiles gave the rebels the edge they needed to destroy dozens of government tanks and other vehicles according to videos posted on social media websites. Indeed, one pro-U.S. commander told The Wall Street Journal that the TOWs completely “flipped the balance of power,” enabling the rebels to dislodge the Syrian army’s heavily dug-in forces and drive them out of town. Although the government soon counter-attacked, Al Nusra and its allies continued to advance to the point where they posed a direct threat to the Damascus regime’s stronghold in Latakia province 50 or 60 miles to the west.

Official Washington was jubilant. “The trend lines for Assad are bad and getting worse,” a senior official crowed a month after the offensive began. The Times happily observed that “[t]he Syrian Army has suffered a string of defeats from re-energized insurgents … [which] raise newly urgent questions about the durability of President Bashar al-Assad’s rule.”

Assad was on the ropes, or so everyone said. Indeed, ISIS thought so as well, according to the Associated Press, which is why it decided that the opportunity was ripe to launch an offensive of its own 200 miles or so to the southeast. Worn-out and depleted after four years of civil war, the Syrian Arab Army retreated before the onslaught.

But considering the billions of dollars that the U.S. and Saudis were pouring into the rebel forces, blaming Damascus for not putting up a stiffer fight is a little like beating up a 12-year-old girl and then blaming her for not having a better right hook.

    http://nationalinterest.org/feature/why-assads-army-has-not-defected-15190

The Syrian Arab Army has held its own for more than five years; its numbers might have been depleted, as is normal for any wartime military, but a close glance at its military reveals that its core, perhaps unexpectedly to many, is Sunni. The current minister of defense, Fahd al-Freij, is one of the most decorated officers in Syrian military history and hails from the Sunni heartland of Hama. The two most powerful intelligence chiefs, Ali Mamlouk and Mohammad Dib Zaitoun, have remained loyal to the Syrian government—and are both Sunnis from influential families. The now-dead and dreaded strongman of Syrian intelligence, Rustom Ghazaleh, who ruled Lebanon with an iron fist, was a Sunni, and the head of the investigative branch of the political directorate, Mahmoud al-Khattib, is from an old Damascene Sunni family. Major General Ramadan Mahmoud Ramadan, commander of the Thirty-Fifth Special Forces Regiment, which is tasked with the protection of western Damascus, is another high-ranking Sunni, as is Brigadier General Jihad Mohamed Sultan, the commander of the Sixty-Fifth Brigade that guards Latakia.

So what has the Russian air force accomplished?
    1. It allowed the reopening of the road from Hama to West Aleppo, ending the siege of that regime-held part of the city and pushing back the rebels from it.
    2. It retook most of Latakia Province, safeguarding the port. Yesterday came the news that the major northern al-Qaeda-held town of Rabia had fallen to the government forces, meaning that Latakia is nearly 100% in government control. These advances into northern Latakia involved hitting Turkmen proxies of Turkey, which is why Turkey shot down a Russian plane last fall. Likely the next step will be to take back cities in Idlib like Jisr al-Shughour, which fell last spring to an al-Qaeda-led coalition, and which could be used as a launching pad for the taking of Latakia port.
    3. It strengthened regime control of Hama and Homs, ensuring the supply routes south to Damascus.
    4. It hit the Army of Islam as well as al-Qaeda and Daesh around Damascus, forcing the latter two to withdraw from part of the capital and killing Zahran Alloush, leader of the Army of Islam.
    5. It hit al-Qaeda and FSA forces in Deraa Province and yesterday the key town of al-Sheikh Miskin fell to the Syrian Arab Army. This is a Deraa crossroads and its loss affects the rebels ability to maneuver in this province.

In April 2014 Black sent an official letter to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, thanking “the Syrian Arab Army for its heroic rescue of Christians in the Qalamoun Mountain Range”, and praising Assad for “treating with respect all Christians and the small community of Jews in Damascus”. In an interview with Politico, Black congratulated the Syrian Army saying they did “a spectacular job” and compared events of this rescue operation to a movie. Democratic Virginia Senator A. The Syrian Arab Army soldiers at the gate greet every media crew as if they are seeing their comrades. Many types of military units are stationed on the edge of the road. The formation suggests they have deployed with a great deal of organization. There, soldiers, for years, have been stationed away from the bustling city of Damascus, and away from their families in the other governorates. Below are some snapshots from the battlefield in the Syrian south.
