Israel believes Al-Bahtini directed the firing of homemade shells from Gaza over the past month.

Ghannam is a leader of the Military Council of the Islamic Jihad, and Ezzeddin , from Arraba town near Jenin in the northern West Bank, is a senior leader of the movement.

The reports also said the strikes targeted Islamic Jihad leaders and members of the group’s armed wing, the Al-Quds Brigades.

Following the assassinations, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held an urgent meeting to discuss certain precautionary measures for Israelis living in settlements near the Gaza Strip in anticipation of retaliation from the Islamic Jihad and possibly other armed resistance groups.

The Israeli army said the strikes on Gaza came almost a week after dozens of shells were reportedly fired from the Gaza Strip, following the death of Islamic Jihad member Khader Adnan, 45, who died on May 2, at an Israeli prison after 87 days of hunger strike demanding his freedom as he was held under Administrative Detention orders without charges or trial.

  • Israeli Soldiers Kill Three Palestinians, Injure Four, In Nablus
    May 4, 2023 – – IMEMC News
    https://imemc.org/article/israeli-soldiers-kill-three-palestinians-injure-four-in-nablus

On Thursday morning, Israeli soldiers killed three young Palestinian men and injured at least four after the undercover force infiltrated the Old City of Nablus, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, and surrounded a home before dozens of military vehicles invaded the area.

In a statement, the Palestinian Health Ministry identified the slain Palestinians as Moath Masri, 35, Hasan Qatanani, 35, and Ibrahim Jabr, 45.

It added that the remains of two of the slain Palestinians were severely mutilated due to Israeli Energia rockets and shells fired at a home the soldiers surrounded.

The Israeli attack started when undercover forces infiltrated the al-Yasmina neighborhood in Nablus’s Old City and surrounded a home before a large military force invaded the area and used a drone to fire a missile at the property before firing more shells and dozens of live rounds, killing the three young men.

Palestinian medics rushed to the area of the attack, but the soldiers fired many live rounds at their ambulances, preventing them from reaching the home or its surrounding area.

Ahmad Jibril, the head of the Emergency Department at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in Nablus, said the many Palestinians protested the invasion before the soldiers fired dozens of live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets, and gas bombs.

Jibril stated that the soldiers injured 166 Palestinians, including four who were shot with live rounds, ten who fell as the army chased them, and 152 who suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation, especially since the army fired the gas bombs at random, many striking homes or landing near them.

Among the wounded were many schoolchildren who suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation in their schools near the invaded area.

The Palestinian Ministry of Education in Nablus said it had to evacuate 16 schools in the invaded area and its surroundings to ensure the children’s safety, especially since the soldiers were firing many live rounds and gas bombs.

The Israeli army claimed that two of the slain Palestinians, Moath Masri and Hasan Qatanani, were responsible for a shooting attack last month, leading to the death of three Israelis from the Dee family in the Jordan Valley, last month, and alleged that Jabr aided them in fleeing the scene. The three are from the illegal Israeli colony of Efrat, built on Palestinian lands near Bethlehem.

The army also confirmed more than 200 soldiers took part in the invasion, adding that they used anti-tank shoulder-mounted missiles and stun grenades dropped from military drones.

The Health Ministry said the death of the three young men brings the number of slain Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers and paramilitary colonizers since the beginning of this year to 107, including 20 children and one woman.

Various Palestinian officials, national and Islamic factions, and social figures denounced the invasion and the killing of the three young men, especially since it was clear the soldiers were not there to abduct the three Palestinians but rather to assassinate them, and that is why they started the attack by firing shells at the property.

  • Palestinian Prisoner Khader Adnan Dies on Day 87 of Hunger Strike
    May 2, 2023 – – IMEMC News

On Monday, May 1, 2023, Khader Adnan became the first Palestinian to die in a hunger strike protesting the Israeli occupation and illegal detention of thousands of Palestinian civilians.

Khader Adnan, from Arraba near Jenin, was born on March 24, 1978, and was a married father of six children. He held a bachelor’s degree in economic mathematics.

Adnan’s death came on the 87th day of a hunger strike which he began on February 5th, the day he was abducted by Israeli soldiers. This was the 12th time that Adnan had been abducted and held in prison by Israeli forces. He spent a total of eight years of his life behind bars in Israeli military prisons — most of that time in so-called ‘administrative detention’, an illegal practice used by Israeli martial authorities to hold Palestinians for extended periods without any charges.

Israeli authorities refused to allow Khader Adnan’s wife and children to see him, even as his health condition deteriorated severely in his last days, and refused the repeated requests by Adnan’s lawyer to have him transferred out of the notoriously ill-equipped Ramle Prison clinic into a civilian hospital.

Khader Adnan was considered one of the most prominent Palestinian political prisoners. He went on extended hunger strikes on five previous occasions – in 2004 for 25 days, in 2012 for 66 days, in 2015 for 56 days, in 2018 for 58 days, and in 2021 for 25 days. These repeated hunger strikes caused severe health impacts, as the body’s internal organs begin to fail after the first two weeks of a hunger strike.

Although Israeli authorities claimed that Adnan was a “terrorist”, they had never filed official charges against him, and held him in prison repeatedly without any charges. Palestinian leaders say that Adnan was targeted because of his vocal and steadfast opposition to the Israeli military occupation of Palestinian land — a military occupation that is considered illegal under international law, and has been condemned by multiple United Nations resolutions.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society issued a statement that Adnan, through his six hunger strikes and martyrdom, “carried the voice of the prisoners to all parts of the world, and was able, with each hunger strike, to gain his freedom. This time, the Israeli occupation made the decision to assassinate him.”

With the martyrdom of the captive Khader Adnan, the number of Palestinian prisoners who died in Israeli custody since 1967 has risen to 236, of whom 75 were the result of the crime of deliberate medical negligence. This is in addition to hundreds who died months or years after they were released, due to health conditions and illness they developed in prison without receiving professional medical treatment.

While Israel claimed Adnan “refused to undergo medical tests and receive treatment”, his lawyer Jamil Al-Khatib accused Israel of deliberate medical negligence and said that he had repeatedly requested that Israeli authorities move Adnan to a civilian hospital in Israel, but the request was denied by the Israeli Prison Authority.

As for the number of prisoners who died in captivity, but whose bodies are being held by Israeli authorities, there are now 13: Anis Doula, who died in Ashkelon prison in 1980, Aziz Owaisat since 2018, Fares Baroud, Nassar Taqatqa, Bassam Al-Sayeh, who died in 2019, Saadi Al-Gharabli, and Kamal Abu Waar, who died in 2020, Sami Al-Amour, who died in 2021, Daoud Al-Zubaidi, Nasser Abu Hamid and Mohammad Maher Turkman, who died in 2022 , the detainee Wadih Abu Ramoz, who died in an Israeli occupation hospital on January 28, 2023, and Khader Adnan, who succumbed in his cell in the Ramla prison clinic on May 2, 2023.

The death of Khader Adnan has been compared to that of the Irish nationalist political prisoner Bobby Sands, who died after 66 days on hunger strike in 1981. According to the Bobby Sands Foundation, he was an Irish republican, an IRA Volunteer and a key figure in the fight against British imperialism in the north of Ireland during the 1970s and early 1980s. He came to public prominence during the 1981 hunger strike when he led the protest by men in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh and women in Armagh Jail who sought political prisoner status. Bobby endured years of solitary confinement and beatings. During his imprisonment he was elected MP for the constituency of Fermanagh and South Tyrone.

Bobby began his hunger strike on 1st March 1981 and died after sixty-six days on the 5th May 1981. In the aftermath of his death he became an international figure that inspires not only Irish republicans in their pursuit of freedom from British rule, but people around the world in the fight for their rights.

The sources said the slain is Alessandro Parini , a 35-year-old Italian citizen, and added that the incident occurred at about 21:35 Friday when the attacker drove on the bike lane of “Charles Clore Park,” hitting six pedestrians.

Israeli daily Haaretz said, “A police officer and a municipal ranger arrived at the scene, and as they noticed the attacker attempted to reach a rifle-like object that was with him, they shot at him and killed him. According to a police source, no weapon was found in Jaber’s vehicle, but rather a toy gun.”

The attack comes hours after two Israeli sisters were killed in a West Bank shooting attack that also left their mother critically wounded

A 35-year-old Italian tourist was killed and seven were wounded in a ramming attack at Tel Aviv’s beach promenade on Friday night, emergency services reported. The attacker was shot dead. According to police, he was identified as 44-year-old Yousef Abu Jaber from the Israeli Arab city of Kafr Qasem.

The Italian Foreign Ministry identified the 35-year-old victim as Alessandro Parini. According to Italian newspaper “La Repubblica,” Parini was a resident of Rome, and worked as a lawyer.

According to the police, at 21:35 the attacker drove southbound on the road adjacent to Tel Aviv’s beach promenade, before veering right and driving at speed on the bike lane for around 100 meters, hitting eight pedestrians and bicyclists before rolling over on the lawn of the Charles Clore Park.

At this point, a police officer and a municipal ranger arrived at the scene, and as they noticed the attacker attempted to reach a rifle-like object that was with him, they shot at him and killed him.

According to a police source, no weapon was found in Jaber’s vehicle, but rather a toy gun. Tel Aviv District Commander Ami Eshed said that Police are looking into the possibility that this was not a terror attack. The Shin Bet security service are also involved in the investigation.

Five other people who were injured in the attack, all Italian and British citizens, were evacuated to hospital. Three are in moderate condition, including a 74-year-old-man, a 39-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl. The other two victims, a man aged 50 and a woman aged 70 were lightly wounded. Two more people, a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, were lightly wounded and treated at the scene. Four of the wounded were released from hospital Friday morning.

The attacker was shot by a police officer and a civilian inspector.

The Kafr Qasem Popular Committee announced Friday that it strongly condemns the attack, sending condolences to the victim’s family and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. “We condemn any harm to the lives of innocent people and call for tolerance from all sides. This is not the way of the residents of Kafr Qasem. The city was and remains a place for coexistence and the pursuit of peace,” the committee said.

A relative of the assailant told Haaretz that “we cannot believe he did such a thing, it’s inconceivable that Yousef, a very quiet and respectful person, would do it. We are in total shock and if we had known in advance that he’d do it then we would have prevented it. He never showed any radical signs, and he’s never had any ideological background.”

According to police, Abu Jaber was not affiliated with any terror group, but was arrested in 2017 following a fight that broke out in Kafr Qasem. Police and Shin Bet forces arrived at his family’s home in the city on Thursday night, conducted a search and interrogated some of the residents. Some of the family members were taken to the police station for further questioning.

The attacker was married and was a father of five daughters.

The Islamic Jihad said in a statement that the attack is a “natural and legitimate response to the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people,” adding that it happened on the one-year anniversary of the terror attack at a bar on Dizengoff street in Tel Aviv.

Magen David Adom medic Yosef Kurdi, who was first on the scene, told Haaretz that he saw an overturned car and a 17-year-old girl lying next to it, fully conscious, with bruises. Near her, he found the 35-year-old victim and pronounced him dead. According to police, he was killed by the ramming and not by shooting.

A witness who was present at the site told Haaretz that a vehicle sped up and entered a nearby gas station. “The gun shots started right after that, after which he turned rightwards and rolled over,” he said.

Ron Huldai, Mayor of Tel Aviv, told Channel 12 News that the attack “is a part of our daily life for a long time”, adding that “nothing will help. The enemy feels our weakness. I hope the Prime Minister will return to himself, and take care of what he promised to – personal safety, the economy and Iran. And that he’ll get off his crazy attempt to turn Israel into something it is not.”

Earlier on Friday, two British-Israeli sisters were killed in a West Bank shooting attack that also left their mother critically wounded. (...)

A young man was killed on Saturday evening by Israeli occupation forces near the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron.

The Public Authority for Civil Affairs stated that it had informed the Ministry of Health of the death of the young man, Mohammad Raed Nayef Baradiya, 23, by Israeli occupation bullets near the town of Beit Ummar.

Israeli police claimed that a vehicular collision in the West Bank was an alleged ‘ramming attack’ by a Palestinian driver. Three Israelis were injured in the incident, which took place near the Palestinian village of Beit Ummar.

Soon after the vehicle collision, Israeli military troops fired numerous live rounds at the driver, without stopping to question him.

Local sources reported that the occupation soldiers left the 23-year old driver bleeding on the ground, and prevented Palestinian ambulances from approaching the place, until he died.

The sources indicated that the killed Palestinian, Baradiya, was from Surif, northwest of Hebron.

The Israeli occupation authorities claimed that three of its soldiers were wounded, two of them seriously, in an alleged “vehicle ramming attack” operation carried out by a Palestinian near the junction of the settlement bloc, “Gush Etzion”, which is located on stolen Palestinian land south of Bethlehem.

With the killing of the young man, the death toll since the beginning of this year has risen to 92, including 17 children and a woman, and a young man from the village of Hura in the Negev within the borders of what is now Israel.

On Saturday dawn, a young Palestinian man from Houra Bedouin village in the Negev died from serious wounds suffered Friday evening after Israeli soldiers shot him with live fire at the Bab Al-Silsila (Chain Gate) leading to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, after alleging he attempted to snatch a weapon from a soldier, an allegation that witnesses denied.

The Israeli army claimed that the soldiers shot the young man when he reportedly tried to snatch a weapon from an officer and that he also “was able to fire the weapon a few times before he was killed.”

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers shot Mohammad Al-Asibi, 26, while trying to stop the soldiers who were beating up a young woman and dragging her out of the Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Chain Gate in preparation for abducting her.

They added that the slain man never tried to assault the soldiers or snatch their weapons and was only focused on trying to stop them from attacking and abducting the young woman.

The soldiers were also clubbing and assaulting dozens of Palestinians trying to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its courtyards to pray on the second Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
