Palm-eating moth found in Monaco
The Department of Urban Amenities (DAU – Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain) has identified an attack by the palm-eating Paysandisia archon moth on the Chamaerops humilis palm trees in the gardens of the Grimaldi Forum. Originally from Argentina, the moth was introduced to Europe via the import of South American palm trees taken from the wild. The first infestations were detected in the Var region in 1999.
