An Atlas of Radical Cartography is a collection of 10 maps and 10 essays about social issues from globalization to garbage; surveillance to extraordinary rendition; statelessness to visibility; deportation to migration. The map is inherently political— and the contributions to this book wear their politics on their sleeves.

An Atlas of Radical Cartography provides a critical foundation for an area of work that bridges art/design, cartography/geography, and activism. The maps and essays in this book provoke new understandings of networks and representations of power and its effects on people and places. These new perceptions of the world are the prerequisites of social change.

Les responsables de la programmation d’été à SKOL présentent An Atlas, une exposition itinérante d’artistes engagés dans la « cartographie radicale ». L’exposition est présentée en parallèle à la publication An Atlas of Radical Cartography, (Journal of Aesthetics and Protest Press, Los Angeles.) L’exposition durera du 20 juin au 8 juillet ; le vernissage aura lieu le vendredi 20 juin. Les commissaires Alexis Bhagat et Lize Mogel seront présents le 18 juin et le 9 juillet pour animer les rencontres hebdomadaires du groupe de lecture à SKOL.

La cartographie radicale est une pratique artistique qui combine les cartes, la géographie et l’art dans une démarche d’activisme social. Les artistes, les architectes et les collectifs qui participent à l’exposition emploient et déconstruisent les conventions de la cartographie, comme les formes géographiques, les panneaux de signalisations et les perspectives aériennes, dans le but de sensibiliser le public à des sujets d’actualité qui vont de la mondialisation à la gestion des déchets.
