Danijel Cecelja

In his series ‘Godmachine’, Cecelja returns to ink pen drawing. This technique allows him to depict worlds within the existing restraints of the visible with an astonishing accuracy. The basis of a drawing can be a map of whale-species, animals such as gorillas or a donkeys, an Ensor-like parade, or a Kafkaesque courthouse. These ‘frames’ contain all sorts of inhabitants, born from the greediness of a child-like creativity. Visually some scenes will remind us of Surrealism, James Ensor, or Hieronymus Bosch, but thematically they are derived from the personal observations of Cecelja.
