“We are, thus, left with one and only option to help end the violence and crisis in Syria and that is a political solution in our view,” said Qatar’s Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah. He and the Minister of Energy and Industry, H E Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada, are in Algeria on a two-day official tour. They arrived in capital Algiers on Wednesday evening.

At the international airport in Algiers, they were welcomed by the Algerian Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal.

Upon arrival, Al Attiyah told waiting journalists that he and Al Sada were visiting Algeria to foster mutual investment and further relations between the two countries. Al Attiyah also addressed a joint press conference with his Algerian counterpart, Ramtane Lamamra, in Algiers.

He said Doha and Algiers fully backed the Arab League resolution on the Syrian crisis.

“There are no differences in our views on the issue of the Arab League’s resolution on the situation in Syria. We called for peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis but the Assad regime didn’t respond. So we are now left with the only option of a political solution.”
