    Center for Political Beauty

The Center for Political Beauty is an assault team that establishes moral beauty, political poetry and human greatness while aiming to preserve humanitarianism. The group’s basic understanding is that the legacy of the Holocaust is rendered void by political apathy, the rejection of refugees and cowardice. It believes that Germany should not only learn from its History but also take action.

The Center for Political Beauty engages in the most innovative forms of political performance art- an expanded approach to theatre: art must hurt provoke and rise in revolt. In one basic alliance of terms: aggressive humanism. The Center‘s exhibitions and plays were shown at Gorki Theatre, the 7th Berlin Biennale, ZKM Karlsruhe, Steirischer Herbst, NGBK, and HMKV, amongst others.

    Statement
    Berlin, November 17th 2014

We are some of the people who followed the call of the Center for
Political Beauty to tear down the European external borders on the
25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. We were
supernumeraries in an art project primarily addressing the German
public by playing with the media. We acted out of a privileged
position without the participation of local actors and affected
persons. But as humans and activists, we were confronted with the
social realities in the border areas of Europe. In this field of
tension we sharpened our sensibilities for the political struggle that
    we will continue.

On our journey, which led us through 8 states in 131 hours, borders
became visible that most EU citizens never notice. The police
harassment that we were exposed to at the border crossings is
unacceptable. Some of us also experienced problems during passport
controls after the action. We are concerned about what data has been
saved and where and we demand a political investigation. What we
experienced, however, is not comparable to what people seeking refuge have to endure at our borders everyday.

We were denied access to the actual border fence. On the one hand,
this shows how much the authorities fear the eye of the public and
therefore how important media actions are. However, this also shows
that the resistance against the European border regime cannot only be
planned and staged as a media event.

Art has pointed out the direction. Now the Fall of the European wall
demands a base. The opening of the border on November 9th 1989, too,
was not the result of a single action. One day a critical mass will
set out for the European external borders and the fences will fall.
This requires a variety of methods of resistance. Continuous and
sustainable. With the participation of us all.

to all those, who felt that cynicism when berlin celebrated 25 years
freedom of movement, while fortress europe builds a new wall... here
is a statement by political artists http://www.politicalbeauty.de
that shows what art can be about.

Very powerful action & pictures. Not everyone is a cynic, though one might become one comparing the 300 death on the German-German border 1961 - 1989 with the 30.000 on the EU borders in no more than 10 years time.
