INTRODUCTION
The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) is pleased to announce the 18th Annual Steel Design Student Competition for the 2017-2018 academic year. Administered by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the program is intended to challenge students, working individually or in teams, to explore a variety of design issues related to the use of steel in design and construction. Steel must be used as the primary structural material and contain at least one space that requires long-span steel structure, with special emphasis placed on innovation in steel design.

WTF !

"Dear Madam/Sir,
As registered architect and associate professor of architecture at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture of Paris Belleville, I wish to express my total indignation to the competition your organisation condone. As the article 13 and 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Right defines the liberty of movement of people and the duty of states to welcome people seeking refuge of persecution, the idea of a “Humanitarian Detention Center” is a total oxymoron that is an insult to intelligence in general, and to the architectural field in particular.
I thereby ask you to cancel this competition in the shortest term if you don’t want to have the name of your organisation totally spoiled by this competition.
I share this letter in all my social and professional networks and will push on that as long as i do not see this competition canceled.
Sincerely
Cyrille Hanappe"
WTF! The Association of Collegiate School of Structures - ACSA organize an architectural competition for student to design a “Humanitarian Detention center” for migrants. There is a violent contradiction in the terms which has to be deounced, as much as architects that as teachers in architecture: Articles 13 and 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights assure the freedom of movement of the people : To associate the Humanitarian term to that of the Detention center thus establishes a particularly perverse oxymoron.
