    The #IWA section of south-western #France asks for #solidarity,

    December the thirteenth.

    Workers fired by a company called Nataïs are sued for defamation because they have expressed themselves on their working conditions in an internet blog.

    1. What is #Nataïs ?

    Nataïs is the fist micro-wave popcorn producer in Europ. Working conditions there are vey hard and dangerous, with 80 percent of temporary workers, very high temperatures, serious labour Code infractions, and above all dangerous products manipulation without protection.

    2. The struggle we lead:

    Our IWA section has been leading a struggle againt that exploiting boss for several months, for workers’ freedom of speech, recognition of their social rights and protection at work against the poison used without any masks. A demonstration and a leaflet distribution notably occured on the Tour de France in July. Leaflets, posters, newspaper reports have been carried on for months. The boss has also been taken to task.

    3. What do we call for ?

    We think that the day of the trial is convenient for a international pressure from the IWA against Nataïs. This pressure could include the following means :
    – sending “black” fax
    – sending the poster enclosed below by fax
    – email the following mail message

    Demand the dropping of the prosecution against the Nataïs workers barred from expressing themselves. The bourgeois justice shall not muzzle the workers whose rights are denied.

    These rights are employment stability, occupationnal safety, information on the products they are exposed to, and application of the collective agreement of the branch they work in.

    We will be watchfull untill these rights are fully observed.

      #Nataïs workers are exposed to diacetyl. The exhibition will obviously vary
      greatly depending on the job. The most dangerous place is the “premix”
      where, in a confined area, with temperatures sometimes reaching more
      than 50 degrees, workers mix the flavoring grain, without a mask. On the
      Safety Sheet, it is written in black and white that you need a half-mask
      cartridge gas / particle (DIN EN141 to be precise), but obviously this
      Safety Data Sheet, workers have not it. It should also be according to
      the recommendations of Professor Kreiss a sensor of particles, a
      non-reversible ventilation, regular spirometry, short exposure times. A
      worker maydo for 1.2 tonnes during the day. Harms studied from
      inhalation of diacetyl are felt after seven hours on a human. Necrosis
      of bronchioles can be quick and deadly, turning in a few months a woman,
      young, athletic and non-smoking in bedridden waiting anxiously for a
      lung transplant.

      The temporary workers does not have a tracking sheet, as this disease
      has no specific symptoms (one doctor diagnosed asthma, chronic
      bronchitis, smoking or lung history), they have no chance of be
      diagnosed for what they really suffer, necrosis of bronchioles due with
      occupational exposure.

      So here we have a perfect illustration of what can be an employee
      disposable, disposable, because it is worn. The term human resource is
      appropriate here, with the idea that resource disappears after use. Here
      is the true face of NATAÏS in a territory rather poor (fifthpoorest of
      France), and with a high unemployment.
