Yemen’s Houthi rebels shoot down Saudi-led coalition Typhoon jet - Xinhua | English.news.cn

There were no immediate comments by the Saudi-led coalition over the Houthi claims.
But if confirmed, this fighter jet would be the second plane downed by the Yemeni rebels in less than one month.
On Oct. 1, the Houthis fired a surface-to-air missile and shot down a U.S.-made drone, General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper, in north of the capital Sanaa.
The United States, which is the main supporter to the Saudi-led coalition fighting Iranian-allied Shiite Houthis, admitted losing its fighter aircraft.
Targeting the Eurofighter Typhoon, one of the world’s most advanced swing-role fighters, came few hours after Houthi fighters fired a ballistic missile toward a Saudi military base deep inside the Saudi southern border province of Najran.
The coalition said the missile destroyed a residential compound belonging to a Saudi-owned government company and slightly injured one worker.
The fierce escalation came one day after remarks by the Kingdom’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that his country will continue the war against the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels in #Yemen.

Kuwait has agreed to purchase 28 Typhoon combat jets in a multibillion euro deal with the Italian government, industry sources in the region said Friday.
The deal is still in negotiation but Kuwait has agreed to buy 22 single seat and six twin-seat Typhoons in a government-to-government agreement.

RAF Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled on Wednesday [28 January] after two long-range TU-95 “Bear” bombers were detected flying over the English Channel.
The incident was last night described as “yet another in a series of deliberately provocative” measures by President Vladimir Putin which confirmed that Nato’s status had moved firmly from “rival to adversary”.
Sources within the Ministry of Defence last night revealed that one of the two long-range bombers was carrying at least one air-dropped “seek and find" nuclear warhead-carrtying missile, designed to seek and destroy a Vanguard submarine.
Both Prime Minister David Cameron and Defence Secretary Michael Fallon were alerted after cockpit conservations confirming the bomber’s nuclear payload were intercepted by a Norwegian military listening post, and shared with the Ministry of Defence.

  Je faisais juste remarquer que le ministère de la Défense britannique communiquait sur ce genre d’informations.
  Dans quel(s) but(s) ? On peut en imaginer aisément plusieurs : attribuer à la Russie une posture d’agresseur, faire monter la tension et, sordidement comme indiqué dans l’article, préparer des décisions budgétaires favorables aux militaires.
  Sinon, ce genre de mission sur une base permanente ont repris, du côté russe en octobre 2007. Ça avait été un peu médiatisé à l’époque, cf.

  En France, on a toujours des avions en permanence nucléaire, porteurs de missiles de croisière à tête nucléaire (ASMP-A). Depuis 2010, ce sont des Rafales qui assurent cette mission. D’accord, ils sont au sol.
  Ne parlons pas des B-52 états-uniens qui peuvent emporter jusqu’à 20 missiles de croisière à tête nucléaire (AGM-129 ACM). Avec, à l’usage, des plaisanteries telles que celle-ci :

  Le point de vue des militaires russes contrebalance un peu le point de vue des militaires britanniques, pour les premiers tout cela était prévu. Qui croire, je n’en sais rien, mais l’article anglais sent bon la bonne vieille propagande (sans parler du montage photo hideux en haut de l’article).

Britain reaches Eurofighter price deal with Saudi: BAE

Britain has reached an agreement over the rising cost of providing Saudi Arabia with Typhoon Eurofighter jets, British defense company BAE Systems said on Wednesday. BAE, working in close co-operation with the British government, signed a $7.5 billion deal in 2007 to supply 72 Eurofighter Typhoon jets to Saudi Arabia. Even though some planes have been delivered, the contract has faced obstacles over rising costs. “Both governments have now agreed price escalation terms relating to the Typhoon aircraft under the Salam program,” BAE said in a statement. read more
