Summary of Events
Regime forces perpetrated a new massacre in the village of Qbair in the province of Hama, claiming the lives of over 100 civilians including 40 women and children. According to activists, regime militias raided about 18 houses and slaughtered their inhabitants by knives before torching the houses with whoever remained inside. They also kidnapped the rest of the survivors leaving less than a dozen in the village.
The death toll in Syria today reached at least 144, including those killed in the massacre of Hama, and thirteen in the city of Haffa in the province of Latakia where regime forces continued to shell the city since yesterday. The shelling intensified when military helicopters and dozens of automobiles carrying regime militiamen laid siege to the city preparing for a massacre.
Unconfirmed reports claim that regime forces used chemical weapons in the neighbourhood of Safsafa in the city of Homs. The weapons used caused nausea, nervous breakdown, runny nose, and loss of consciousness.
UN observers visited the town of Qalat Huson in the province of Homs where regime forces opened heavy fire on their convoy. Another group visited the village of Orum Jouz where they were welcomed by a massive demonstration, while another visited the Damascus suburb of Rhaiba for ten minutes where they met up with under cover regime personnel.
The regime’s violations to Annan’s plan continued, as it shelled the cities of Qasir, Houleh, Rastan and Homs, the towns of Daret Izza and Hayan in the province of Aleppo, the town of Lajat, the villages of Kinda, Kabbani, and Akko, the town of Maaret Noman in the province of Idlib, and the villages of Qbair, Jraijes, Marzaf, Kherbet Twaim, and Kherbet Kbeer. Assad’s forces opened heavy fire in the cities of Muhasan and Boukamal in the province of Deir Azzour, the towns of Tal Shehab, Jassem, Tafas, and Naseeb in the province of Daraa, and shelled and raided the village of Twaini while shelling the cities of Taybet Imam and Hama.
In the capital, regime forces opened heavy fire in the neighbourhoods of Nahar Aisha, Qabun and Hajar Aswad, as well as the suburbs of Aqraba, Saqba, Hamouriya, Erbin, Daraya, and Moadamiya, and shelled the suburbs of Deir Asafir, Douma, and Zamalka.
