RIFU, Miyagi Prefecture—East Japan Railway Co. and West Japan Railway Co. on Nov. 28 unveiled their first jointly developed high-speed train, describing it as a combination of Japanese tradition and state-of-the-art technology.

The new E7 series, shown to the media at a rail yard in Rifu, Miyagi Prefecture, will debut in March 2015, when the Nagano-Kanazawa route of the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line is expected to start services. The new bullet train can cover the Tokyo-Kanazawa section in two hours and a half at the fastest, the companies said.
