  • Egypt : Government hikes fuel prices by up to 66.7% | MadaMasr
    https://www.madamasr.com/en/2018/06/16/news/economy/government-hikes-fuel-prices-by-up-to-66-7

The government raised fuel prices at 9 am on Saturday morning by as much as 66.67 percent, according to Saturday’s edition of the Official Gazette. The move comes as part of the 2016 structural readjustment program agreed on with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and amid rising international oil prices.

Among the hikes introduced on Saturday morning, the second largest increases were levied on diesel and 80 octane fuel prices, which are used in microbuses and trucks. This will have a pronounced impact on low-income groups and overall inflation levels.

The greatest increase comes with the rise in prices of LPG cylinders used in households and some commercial outlets as an alternative to gas. The price of 95 octane and 92 octane fuel — used by private car owners — saw the lowest increase.

Turkey will grant citizenship to foreigners who buy properties worth at least $1 million and invest a minimum of $2 million or deposit at least $3 million in a bank account for more than three years, according to a revised decree that was published in the Official Gazette on Jan. 12, Doğan News Agency reported.

The decree also stipulated that foreigners who document their creation of a minimum of 100 jobs in the country will also be offered citizenship.

Meanwhile, Turkish real estate companies earlier claimed they could sell a minimum of $10 billion worth of property to foreigners if citizenship or residence permits were offered to foreigners who buy houses in the country.

  • Turkey blames sabotage, cyberattacks from US soil for power cuts — RT News

Sabotage of underground powerlines and cyberattacks originating in the US were contributing factors in the power outages which Istanbul and other parts of Turkey have been experiencing since last week, the country’s energy minister said.

“Yesterday, we faced an intense, US-originated cyber attack. These attacks have been carried out systematically on different parts of the Energy Ministry, but we have repelled them all,” Turkish Energy Minister Berat Albayrak said in an interview with A Haber TV.

He added that ministry staff responding to power cuts discovered sabotage of underground lines in three districts of Istanbul.

Turkey’s energy watchdog EPDK imposes two-month cap on power prices
      http://energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/power/turkeys-energy-watchdog-epdk-imposes-two-month-cap-on-power-prices/56386439

ANKARA: Turkey’s energy watchdog EPDK imposed a two-month cap of 500 liras per megawatt hour on electricity prices on Friday after prices rose to their highest level in years.

Turkey’s daily natural gas consumption has risen to record highs since December, largely due to colder-than-usual weather triggering higher power consumption.

The day-ahead electricity price at Turkey’s energy exchange (EPIAS) rose to 586 lira ($162) per megawatt hour last month with hourly prices as high as 1,900 lira, data from the exchange showed. Such levels were the highest in years, traders said.

In a decision announced in the Official Gazette on Friday, Turkey’s EPDK said a 500 liras ($138.06) per megawatt hour cap would be imposed on electricity prices from January 6 to March 1, 2017.

“With this decision, the EPDK is attempting to protect the consumer, supplier and producer from prices rising and falling unpredictably, and reduce the effects of seasonal weather conditions on energy prices,” the EPDK said in a statement.

Day-ahead power price in EPIAS on Friday stood at 176.03 lira per MWh, data on its website showed.

Traders have criticised poor supply planning and lack of coordination by the state energy authorities.

State pipeline operator Botas has cut 75 percent of supplies to gas-fired power plants and advised industrial firms to cut non-critical output.

In addition to mounting demand triggered by persistent cold weather, Turkey decided not to set its clocks back as usual this winter which led to a rise in electricity consumption rather than the planned energy savings.

  • Statement by Head of OSCE Mission to Skopje on President Ivanov’s decisions to pardon 56 individuals | OSCE
    http://www.osce.org/skopje/233646

Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje Nina Suomalainen has taken note of President Gjorge Ivanov’s 41 decisions published yesterday in the Official Gazette to pardon 56 individuals.

While the stated intention of the President was to contribute to the resolution of the ongoing crisis, the citizens nevertheless are entitled to see political and legal accountability being carried out. The judiciary and the Special Prosecutor’s Office must be allowed to continue to do their very important work in line with the principles of independence and impartiality.

The investigation of the cases surrounding and arising from the content of the unauthorized interception of communications, and subsequent court cases should help rebuild the trust of citizens in the rule of law and in a well-functioning and impartial justice system.

    • … et, immédiatement, le big boss,

Statement by OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the domestic political crisis in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia | OSCE
      http://www.osce.org/cio/233701

I am very concerned about the latest developments in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The decision of the Macedonian President to exempt from criminal prosecution politicians and office holders, who face charges of grave misconduct, damages the rule of law and legal peace. This decision contravenes the Przino agreement concluded between the country’s parties and the decision undermines the work of the Special Prosecutor’s Office and its mandate to investigate all accusations of abuse of power.

Efforts must now be prioritized and reinforced to create the minimum requirements, as jointly agreed, for holding credible elections as soon as possible.

  • Qatar’s Emir approves changes to the country’s labor law - Doha News

    http://dohanews.co/qatars-emir-approved-changes-countrys-labor-law/?pushup=1

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar’s Emir, has approved an amendment to the national labor law today, according to the state’s Qatar News Agency.

At 8:40pm on Wednesday, the agency posted the following bulletin:

Doha, February 18 (QNA) – HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani issued today Law No. (1) of the year 2015, amending some provisions of the Labour Act No. (14 ) of the year 2004.
The law is to be enforced and be published in the Official Gazette.(QNA)

No further details have been released yet.

But in May, authorities pledged to make it easier for expats to change jobs and leave the country. Over the past nine months, amendments to the labor law have been tied up in consultative meetings.

To the disappointment of some, the proposed changes stopped short of abolishing the much-criticized no objection certificate requirement to switch employers and exit permit system that regulates sponsored employees’ ability to exit Qatar.

Other reforms that were discussed included requiring companies to pay their employees through direct bank transfers, making it easier for expats and the government to scrutinize and document any late or non-existing payments.

Several human rights advocates speculated that this evening’s announcement may only cover measures mandating electronic salary transfers:

Officials at QNA and Al Meezan – which publishes Qatar’s official gazette – told Doha News this evening that they did not have any information on the substance of the labor law changes.

    More soon.

  • Construction regulations see radical changes
    http://www.todayszaman.com/news-350452-construction-regulations-see-radical-changes.html

La centralisation des politiques d’urbanisme se voit une nouvelle fois renforcée en Turquie suite à l’adoption de nouvelles régulations.

New regulations on spatial plans construction, which were published in the Official Gazette on Friday by the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, have introduced an extensive overhaul of public improvement and zoning systems and the construction sector.

The new regulations, which include 40 articles and hundreds of subsections, have rendered obsolete and replaced the previous two sets of relevant regulations. One of the most significant changes brought by the new regulations include the abolishment of municipalities’ sole right to determine razing, downsizing or replacements in social and technical infrastructure. The Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning will have the last word in planning changes upon proposals from municipalities throughout the country, from small towns to metropolises. In other words, municipalities will still be able to do urban planning studies and prepare projects, but they will be under significant centralized control.
