New Benchmark Supports Claims of ‘10,000 TPS’ #blockchain
    ▻https://hackernoon.com/new-benchmark-supports-claims-of-10-000-tps-blockchain-2bc8db0b98b4?sour

In the fight for attention among the crypto media and community, it is exceptionally common for projects to boast competitive achievements pertaining to quantitative metrics in a bid to make headline news.Transactions-per-second (or TPS) is just one of these and sits at the centre of an ongoing technological arms race to create the fastest engine for blockchain transaction speeds.Whilst many bogus and otherwise unbelievable claims have been made by rivals, the transactions-per-second achieved by the QtumX blockchain (if the benchmark is to be believed) puts it far ahead of the ‘top tier’ chains.(For the record: #bitcoin is estimated to be capable of processing just seven TPS, whilst Ripple can currently process approximately 1,000 TPS.)The Need For #qtum SpeedOne of the latest companies to (...)

Qtum Atomic Swaps — Understanding Zero Value UTXOsMoney Bunny — Gratisography.comTLDR; Today’s article is dedicated to Atomic swap technology, a smart contract that allows to directly exchange one type of #crypto asset with another without the assistance of a mutually trusted intermediary party.Use Case; Imagine Alice wants to exchange her QTUM into BTC. Lucky for her, Bob is looking to buy QTUM. However, as the QTUM and Bitcoin #blockchain are not related to each other, either party can cheat and just disappear with the funds. Before the introduction of Atomic Swap technology, you could find many escrow offers on the famous BitcoinTalk forum from third parties who acted as a mean of trust between Alice and Bob. Again, trust issues could arise with the escrow agent, so the best solution was to (...)

Despite its incredible proliferation in the past two years, the #blockchain is still a relatively novel technology, requiring continual development and maturation before it can attain the prominent role that many expect it to play in the digital age.QTUM, an open sourced public blockchain initiative, is donating $400,000 to academics at the University of Columbia who are advancing blockchain #research in several ways. Why do blockchain based prediction markets need an arbitration process? Here is what I learned from Bodhi network’s founder Xiahong Lin. (No technical background needed.)What is the usual use of prediction markets?“As a prediction market, we don’t make predictions for others. We provide a market or trading platform for people to make predictions,” Lin said.A betting market is probably the most common use case for a prediction market. It’s a well-argued collection of essays on several high-profile smart contract platforms — at the time of this writing, he’s covered Tezos, DFINITY, #neo, EOS, Cardano, Lisk, Qtum, and Waves. As it turns out, there aren’t currently many alternatives to Ethereum when it comes to supporting arbitrarily complex distributed applications. Adwaita-Qt is (as you might guess from the name) a theme that helps make Qt apps look like GTK apps by themeing them to match up with Adwaita, […] This post, This Theme Makes Qt Apps Feel at Home on GNOME, was written by Joey Sneddon and first appeared on OMG! In January 2015, a few months before the British general election, a proud newspaper resigned itself to the view that little good could come from the use of statistics by politicians. An editorial in the Guardian argued that in a campaign that would be “the most fact-blitzed in history”, numerical claims would settle no arguments and persuade no voters. Not only were numbers useless for winning power, it added, they were useless for wielding it, too. Numbers could tell us little. “The project of replacing a clash of ideas with a policy calculus was always dubious,” concluded the newspaper. “Anyone still hankering for it should admit their number’s up.”

Through her work as a nurse in the Crimean War, was a pioneer in establishing the importance of sanitation in hospitals. She meticulously gathered data on relating death tolls in hospitals to cleanliness, and, because of her novel methods of communicating this data, she was also a pioneer in applied statistics. We explore the work of Nightingale, and in particular focus on her use of certain graphs which, following misreading of her work, are now commonly known as ’coxcombs’.

KDE and Qt programs look bad when in a different window manager

KDE and Qt programs look bad when in a different window manager

If you’re using KDE or #Qt programs but not in a full #KDE session (specifically, you didn’t run “startkde”), then as of KDE 4.6.1 you will need to tell Qt how to find KDE’s styles (Oxygen, QtCurve etc.)

You just need to set the environment variable QT_PLUGIN_PATH. E.g. put

    export QT_PLUGIN_PATH=$HOME/.kde4/lib/kde4/plugins/:/usr/lib/kde4/plugins/

into your /etc/profile (or ~/.profile if you don’t have root access). qtconfig should then be able to find your kde styles and everything should look nice again!
