▻https://www.arretsurimages.net/breves/2016-03-15/Suede-entente-des-medias-pour-bloquer-Adblock-id19730

At work here is what is called, variously, “social syndication” or “traffic exchange,” a technique increasingly in vogue among publishers looking to get their articles and brands in front of other readers.
(…) “That fiefdom-like thinking that ‘we own this audience and it’s ours only’ is very old media. It’s like people saying, ‘I only subscribe to The Wall Street Journal or The New York Times,’” said Daily Dot CEO Nick White. “It’s just not the right model anymore.”

Although audiences still consume the majority of their online news from familiar and trusted brands, the way they access that content is changing. Our data show very different patterns of access across countries. In countries like the UK, Denmark, and Finland, branded websites are often the starting point for any news journey. By contrast, in Italy, Spain, Germany, or France a search engine is often the key gateway while social media are important in Australia and Urban Brazil.
In Japan, the strength of search is partly down to the dominance of Yahoo as integrated news and discovery platform while popular new mobile apps like Smart News and Gunosy explain the very high scores for other aggregators.

The blog, which was created during the riots that spread through France in 2005, gives a voice to groups often underrepresented in mainstream news media coverage. Self-described citizen journalism, the Bondy Blog regularly reports on politics and social issues, with many of the writers sharing scenes and moments from their lives at work or in the neighborhood.
The blog, which has 220,000 visitors a month, has won awards for its work, and its journalists regularly collaborate with outlets like Télérama, Elle, Le Monde.fr, Canal Plus, L’ Obs and Radio France.
Over the years, the blog has evolved into a rich source for scholars, journalists and activists interested in the banlieues, said Hisham D. Aidi, a Columbia University researcher and the author of “Rebel Music,” a study on Muslim youth politics in Europe and the United States that discusses the Bondy Blog.

Now, when you come to qz.com, we are offering an efficient briefing on global business news, called the Brief. It’s intended to be read straight through, like a well written memo from a trusted advisor. What it’s not is a sea of headlines, like you find on the homepages of many news sites.
Think of the Brief as a continually updated version of our popular morning email, the Daily Brief, which will continue to be published as usual. As always, we will link you to the best sources for each story, whether that’s us or someone else. Some notes in the Brief, denoted by an arrow, can be expanded to reveal more information about developing news. Our journalists around the world will be keeping the Brief updated at all times, so loyal readers can check in at any time of day. It works particularly well on your phone.

If you are a journalist at a print publication, your job is in danger. Period. Time to do something about it.
(...) I asked several reporters, editors, and scholars what journalists should do to get ready for the next wave of firings. There were three strong consensus answers: first, get good at understanding and presenting data. Second, understand how social media can work as a newsroom tool. Third, get whatever newsroom experience you can working in teams, and in launching new things.
(...) We are statistically much closer to the next recession than to the last one, and in a recession, ad dollars are the first to go. Many papers will go bankrupt the way Hemingway’s Mike Campbell did: Gradually, and then suddenly.

But there’s more to Dreyfuss’s strategy than making a splash. Attention-getting posts and headlines bring in little bursts of traffic, but that’s not Mother Jones’ end game. The light content is meant to keep the audience in place so that when a heavily reported series or investigative story is published, there’s someone there to read it. It’s sort of the reverse tactic of organizations like BuzzFeed that started out silly but are moving into traditional news content.
“You gain more eyes with all this stuff that people want to read because it’s candy, and then, once you gain their readership and their following, you can give them the more healthy thing,” Dreyfuss says. “Our most shared stuff is never the candy stuff, it’s not the dessert. It actually ends up being some of the magazine stories, some of the things we’re really proud of, as opposed to being silly things.”
