Ceci st pour @simplicissimus :)
A team of Russian developers has been working on the creation of a multipurpose sea-going #ekranoplan, (the Russian name for a Wing-In-Ground-Effect craft, or WIG) which they say could contribute significantly to the speed of seaborne traffic and Search and Rescue response times.
The project, which has been announced as unique will be presented by MariNet, the National Technological Initiative (NTI) working group, on the sidelines of the International Exhibition NEVA-2017 in St Petersburg, September 19-21.
#Merci !

BBC - Future - The ghostly radio station that no one claims to run

By Zaria Gorvett

In the middle of a Russian swampland, not far from the city of St Petersburg, is a rectangular iron gate. Beyond its rusted bars is a collection of radio towers, abandoned buildings and power lines bordered by a dry-stone wall. This sinister location is the focus of a mystery which stretches back to the height of the Cold War.
It is thought to be the headquarters of a radio station, “MDZhB”, that no-one has ever claimed to run. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, for the last three-and-a-half decades, it’s been broadcasting a dull, monotonous tone. Every few seconds it’s joined by a second sound, like some ghostly ship sounding its foghorn. Then the drone continues.

The Chilling Ruins of Hovrinskaya Hospital, Moscow
Construction of Moscow’s Hovrinskaya Hospital began in 1980 and halted five years later, leaving behind an unsettling, brutalist shell of what would have been a 1,300-bed hospital. At a glance, it’s easy to imagine how a plethora of creepy tales and urban legends might have emerged from the ruins of the abandoned, unfinished hospital. And indeed they have. But not all of these stories are the stuff of folklore.

Looking for Traces of Lenin in Ukraine
▻https://hyperallergic.com/384217/looking-for-traces-of-lenin-in-ukraine
A few years ago, photographer Niels Ackermann and journalist Sébastien Gobert embarked on a strange treasure hunt: a search for Vladimir Lenin in Ukraine. More specifically, they were seeking the material traces of the former Soviet leader, in the form of his many memorial statues Ukrainians have removed in the past four years. It turns out these stone and metal Lenins met a vast array of fates after their falls, from taking up residence in museums to undergoing transformations into new heroes of the 21st century.
