Face à l’avalanche de #violences_en_ligne envers les femmes, l’#ONU appelle à réagir et protéger
#Internet est devenu un terrain d’entraînement à la #haine envers les femmes par le biais de la « #machosphère », a averti mardi l’Ambassadrice mondiale de l’initiative Spotlight lors d’une réunion en marge du débat général de l’ONU à New York, appelant à la mise en place d’un cadre juridique qui réglemente Internet de toute urgence.
« Comment expliquer l’existence d’un forum Facebook réunissant 32.000 hommes, où chacun a partagé — sans consentement — des photos intimes de sa partenaire pour qu’elles soient notées par d’autres ? Que révèle un tel acte sur la place que ces hommes accordent aux femmes dans leur vie et, par extension, les femmes dans notre société ? », s’est indignée la championne de l’initiative #Spotlight des Nations Unies, qui vise à mettre fin aux violences envers les femmes et les filles.
L’#IA entraine de nouvelles formes de #violence_numérique
Selon l’actrice mexicaine, l’apparition de l’intelligence artificielle s’accompagne d’une « avalanche » de nouvelles formes de #violence_numérique allant de l’#extorsion à la violence basée sur l’#image, de la divulgation de #données_personnelles au #cyberharcèlement, du #harcèlement_sexuel au #grooming en vue d’une #agression_sexuelle (#pédopiégeage), pour n’en citer que quelques-unes.
« Au cours des 12 derniers mois, 300 millions d’#enfants ont été victimes d’#exploitation_sexuelle et d’#abus en ligne », a-t-elle déploré.
On assiste à une croissance exponentielle des groupes opposés aux droits des femmes, ainsi qu’à l’émergence de nouvelles technologies qui renforcent les pensées et les actes misogynes, « à tel point qu’aujourd’hui, un nombre écrasant de jeunes garçons ne croient pas que la #violence_sexiste soit réelle et existe ».
Mme Suarez estime que « les intermédiaires technologiques doivent être tenus de détecter, d’évaluer et d’orienter, de manière proactive, le comportement de leurs utilisateurs, qui doivent être passibles de sanctions légales, le cas échéant ».
Elle a souligné que la violence que subissent les femmes et les filles en ligne a exactement le même impact que la violence subie hors ligne : son impact et ses conséquences sont d’une ampleur identique.
Des hommes qui restent silencieux
La violence sexiste ne touche pas seulement les femmes et les filles, signale Mme Suarez. Elle impose aussi aux hommes une image rigide, où douter, pleurer ou montrer sa fragilité est perçu comme un manque de virilité.
Selon les études citées par Equimundo, une initiative partenaire de Spotlight qui lutte contre les violences sexistes et œuvre pour une #masculinité_positive, 40 % des #jeunes_hommes ont été victimes de harcèlement homophobe en ligne et de nombreux jeunes hommes sont victimes de #sextorsion.
« La majorité des hommes ne commettent pas ces actes, mais beaucoup restent silencieux », a affirmé à son tour Gary Barker, PDG d’Equimundo.
Selon lui, c’est dans les salons de discussion, les plateformes de jeux, TikTok, YouTube — tous ces lieux de rassemblement pour les jeunes hommes dénommés la « machosphère », qu’ils sont témoins de ces violences, voient leurs pairs en être responsables, sans pour autant agir pour y mettre fin.
« La plupart du temps, les garçons ne vont pas sur Internet pour chercher la misogynie. C’est la misogynie qui trouve les garçons sur Internet », déclare M. Barker.
Selon une récente étude irlandaise, sur la machosphère anglophone, quel que soit le contenu qu’il recherche, un jeune homme connecté à Internet reçoit un message misogyne, en l’espace de seulement 23 minutes, une fois que l’algorithme sophistiqué a identifié son âge et son sexe.
Quelles sont les solutions ?
M. Barker demeure toutefois optimiste : « 23 minutes, c’est beaucoup de temps pour nous permettre de déterminer ce qu’il faut faire ».
« Nous déployons des robots pour remplacer les messages misogynes par des contenus positifs, et mobilisons de nombreux influenceurs — souvent méconnus — parmi lesquels beaucoup de jeunes hommes qui s’engagent à combattre la misogynie. Nous investissons en eux pour qu’ils diffusent des messages constructifs ».
Le monde du jeu vidéo est également un espace dans lequel Equimundo s’implique.
« Nous investissons ces espaces en collaborant avec certains créateurs, qui, bien que parfois perfectibles, acceptent de nous ouvrir leurs plateformes. Ensemble, nous développons des jeux où les jeunes hommes peuvent promouvoir une masculinité positive et saine ».
Mme Suarez s’est félicitée de la présence de deux jeunes garçons dans la salle.
« Nous avons besoin que les hommes se joignent à ce combat et, en tant que société, nous devons mettre en place une éducation qui s’adresse directement aux hommes », a-t-elle conclu.
