Decentralized Storage Systems — Offering Optimum Security and EfficiencyRepresenting decentralised cloud storageThe advancement in the digital realm has certainly streamlined and improved the way people received services. Presently, common masses have access to vast information and services on the go. However, data security and efficiency have been a critical challenge that companies across the globe are continuously dealing with. While present cloud storage options offer vast space, there are challenges that keep enterprises from completely relying on centralised data storage systems.Challenges of Existing Data Storage SystemsBelow are the fundamental setbacks of conventional data storage options:-Privacy and Security IssuesInternet privacy threats such as identity thefts, tracking, (...)

What Does Cloud #storage Mean to You?

Over the past decade, cloud technologies have evolved from simple Infrastructure as a Service offerings to diversified services and middleware portfolios. One of the major areas of advancement is towards the cloud storage offerings. When discussing cloud storage, one of the common questions comes up is that what does cloud storage means to someone. If we look at modern cloud storage, it ranges from general purpose block storage comes for servers to higher level storage services such as Relational databases, NoSQL. In addition, the cloud offers different storage configurations for underlying infrastructure. As you can see, cloud storage is a broader topic which needs further understanding when selecting storages for different use cases. This article focuses on providing a higher level (...)

Storage Inspector - Firefox Developer Tools | MDN
    ▻https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Storage_Inspector

The Storage Inspector enables you to inspect various types of storage that a web page can use. Currently it can be used to inspect the following storage types:

    – Cache Storage (new in Firefox 47) - any DOM caches created using the Cache API.
    – Cookies - All the cookies created by the page or any iframes inside of the page. Cookies created as a part of response of network calls are also listed, but only for calls that happened while the tool is open.
    – Local Storage - All local storage items created by the page or any iframes inside the page.
    – Session Storage - All session storage items created by the page or any iframes inside the page.
    – IndexedDB - All IndexedDB databases created by the page or any iframes inside the page, their Object Stores and the items stored in these Object Stores.

For the time being, the Storage Inspector only gives you a read-only view of storage. But we’re working to let you edit storage contents in future releases.

#Dropbox #bug results in users losing data

This affects people using some older versions of the desktop app and enabling the Selective Sync option.

Typically, this would happen after a crash or forced reboot, making a bad problem worse — at least a few users found that they’d lost years’ worth of content through no fault of their own.

Dropbox confirms this through a personalised message to their users.

Snowden : Get rid of #Dropbox, avoid #Google and #Facebook

Comme alternatif à Dropbox il suggère #SpiderOak ▻http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/07/17/snowden-says-drop-dropbox-use-spideroak

The difference between Dropbox and SpiderOak is that SpiderOak encrypts the data while it’s on your computer, as opposed to only encrypting it “in transit” and on the company’s servers.

      ▻http://www.courrierinternational.com/article/2014/10/13/edward-snowden-laissez-tomber-dropbox-facebook-et-google

Introducing BRIC (Bunch of Redundant Independent Clouds) « Bitcartel Blog
    ►http://bitcartel.wordpress.com/2012/10/21/rbic-redundant-bunch-of-independent-clouds

Online storage providers are handing out free storage like candy. Add them all up and soon you’re talking about a serious amount of space. So let’s have some fun by turning ten different online storage providers into a single data grid which is secure, robust, and distributed. We call this grid a BRIC (Bunch of Redundant Independent Clouds).

The BRIC solution presented here will use the open source project Tahoe-LAFS to perform the RAID like function of striping data across different storage providers. Here’s how Tahoe-LAFS describes itself:
Tahoe-LAFS is a Free and Open cloud storage system. It distributes your data across multiple servers. Even if some of the servers fail or are taken over by an attacker, the entire filesystem continues to function correctly, including preservation of your privacy and security.

    Novel #Energy #Storage Membrane
    ►http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9007100410

Dr Xie and his team have developed a membrane that not only promises greater cost-effectiveness in delivering energy, but also an environmentally-friendly solution. The researchers used a polystyrene-based polymer to deposit the soft, foldable membrane that, when sandwiched between and charged by two metal plates, could store charge at 0.2 farads per square centimeter. This is well above the typical upper limit of 1 microfarad per square centimeter for a standard capacitor.
