#Alana_Osbourne - “Decolonial Tours” - 30th June 2022 - Beyond Inhabitation Lab Spring Seminar Series
I focus on tour guides who offer decolonial narratives and experiences of Brussels to an eclectic and changing audience. Drawing on the embodied temporalities of walking tours and by reviving urban memories, these guides give texture and shape to the city’s sensorium in a way that reaffirms black life against the resonances of colonialism in Belgium. Suturing past, present and future, this quilting of urban times fosters new relationships between people, landscapes and histories, and opens spaces of togetherness within a riven city.
Dr. Alana Osbourne is a FNRS post-doctoral fellow at the Anthropological Laboratory for Contemporary Worlds (LAMC) at the Brussels Free University (ULB | Université Libre de Bruxelles). An anthropologist and filmmaker, her research interests include: sensorial anthropology and affect, the anthropology of violence, archival studies, Caribbean studies and film. She alternates her academic work with film and theatre projects.
