Tattoos are a permanent mark that symbolizes how you feel about someone or something a certain point in time. It has become a starter of conversations for many interactions. Roger Stone got his #tattoo of Richard Nixon years ago and carries the former President’s spirit quite literally on his back. Kelsey Karter supposedly got singer Harry Styles’ tattoo on her face this week and many are wondering how her future significant other will feel about it in a few years. Notorious #wikipedia editor Philip Cross is not known to have tattoos, and his editing activity makes people question whether he is a person at all or a group of people trying to sway public opinion. Updated | Twenty-four year old Catt Gallinger’s fun excursion into body art ended in horror when an eye #tattoo left her partially blinded and oozing purple tears. The tattoo was meant to have tinted her sclera, the white part of her eye, but instead went terribly wrong, causing pain and possible permanent impairment. Now the young model is sharing her story in the hopes that others won’t make her same mistake.

    Algeria’s Stained Women

In the early to mid-1900s, the Berber women of the Aurès mountains in northeastern Algeria tatooed palm trees, crosses, and small diamonds known as the “partridge’s eye” on their faces. In their culture, it was seen as beautiful and considered good luck. But after the country won its independence from the French in 1962, literacy rates increased, as did the influence of Islam. Algerians came to read in the Koran that tattoos are haram, or forbidden. The last generation of women to practice this ritual are now in their 80s or 90s, and they say that they regret the tattoos. To atone for their “sin,” they have donated all of their silver jewelry to charity.
