Athènes vient d’ouvrir son premier « #centre_fermé » pour les demandeurs d’asile à #Samos, une île grecque proche de la Turquie. Érigé en exemple par le ministre de l’intérieur français, ce centre est une « prison » pour beaucoup d’ONG.

Crescere in isolamento

Tra il 2014 e il 2016 #Carolyn_Drake ha realizzato Internat, un reportage in un orfanotrofio di #Petrykiv, vicino alla città di #Ternopil, costruito quando l’Ucraina faceva parte dell’Unione Sovietica. La struttura ospita disabili e in particolare, una settantina di giovani donne che affrontano il passaggio dall’infanzia all’età adulta in completo isolamento.

Drake, fotografa statunitense e associata dell’agenzia Magnum, ha cominciato la sua ricerca anni prima, quando abitava nella regione ed ebbe l’occasione di incontrare le pazienti da bambine. Tornata nel 2014, pensava di incontrare nuove ospiti ma la maggior parte di quelle bambine abitavano ancora lì, ed erano cresciute. Drake decise così di restare e costruire con loro delle vere relazioni, ascoltandone i pensieri, i sogni e le aspirazioni e proponendo progetti per stimolare la loro creatività.

La reclusione, il rapporto con la natura e le attività quotidiane sono stati i punti di partenza che hanno spinto la fotografa e queste giovani donne (nessuna di loro supera i 35 anni) a riflettere su cosa significa essere invisibili, donne e ad esplorare le proprie potenzialità.

#Internat è esposto a Officine fotografiche, a Roma, fino all’8 marzo. La mostra è curata da Laura De Marco ed è realizzata in collaborazione con il Si Fest, il festival di fotografia di Savignano sul Rubicone.
