    La résistance universitaire au trumpisme

    Entretien avec Joan W. Scott

    L’historienne Joan W. Scott est professeure émérite à l’Institute for Advanced Study de Princeton, New Jersey. Mondialement célèbre pour avoir introduit l’idée d’une perspective de genre en histoire, autrice de travaux importants sur les usages politiques de la laïcité en France, elle est également une spécialiste reconnue de la question des libertés académiques, un dossier qu’elle suit depuis plusieurs décennies. Elle est notamment membre du “Comité A” de l’Association of American University Professors (AAUP), dédié à la question de la titularisation (“tenure”) et des libertés académiques.

    Quelques jours après la deuxième élection de Donald Trump en novembre 2024, Joan Scott a publié un article dans le Chronicle of Higher Education, une revue très lue par les universitaires aux Etats-Unis, intitulé “We will have to resist”, Nous devrons résister. Elle y détaille le fait que la prétendue “neutralité institutionnelle” des universités ne sera pas de mise face au projet trumpiste de “convertir l’enseignement supérieur en une usine de production de patriotes loyaux envers le régime au pouvoir.” Elle est également l’une des rédactrices du communiqué de l’AAUP publié début février 2025 sous le titre “Against Anticipatory Obedience”, Contre l’obéissance par anticipation.

    Sociologue et historien au CNRS, Pascal Marichalar a interviewé Joan Scott le 31 janvier 2025 pour recueillir son avis sur les dix premiers jours de la deuxième administration Trump.

    Et si c’est la BBC qui l’écrit, comment ne pas croire à ce qui est totalement incroyablement uncredible :

    1. He suggest that Canada could become a US state to avoid tariffs "They do almost 90% of their business with the United States, whereas with us it’s the opposite."

    2. Trump says he believes US will ’get Greenland, he renewed his appeal for Denmark to relinquish control of Greenland to the US - saying it’s an "absolute necessity" for international security. "I think we’re going to have it," he added.

    3. US president called Gaza a “demolition site”, (it has to be cleaned) saying he had spoken to King Abdullah II of Jordan about the possibility of his country and Egypt taking in displaced Palestinians. Trump has suggested relocating Gazans to Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan.

    4. US Air Force removing material on the role of black and female pilots during World War Two from its training programmes. Donald Trump’s move to block diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives led military officialto take "immediate steps" to remove material to "ensure compliance" with the US president’s order

    5. Trump orders 25% tariffs on Colombia after US planes deporting migrants turned back.

      edit : ce que ne dit pas la BBC c’est que

      Bogota a interdit l’entrée d’avions militaires américains transportant des migrants expulsés. Après le Brésil, la Colombie a exigé des Etats-Unis qu’ils traitent avec « dignité » les migrants expulsés.

      Les autres États (la Chine en particulier) seront probablement conduits à jouer la « diplomatie transactionnelle », comme l’indiquent les annonces d’éventuelles mesures de réciprocité en cas de brusqueries étasuniennes au Canada.

      La Colombie a cédé mais avant son président s’est tout de même vivement exprimé :

      L’affaire donne lieu à une riposte d’une violence inédite de la part du président colombien. « On m’informe que vous imposez un droit de 50 % sur les fruits de notre labeur pour entrer aux Etats-Unis, et je fais de même », rétorque le président Gustavo Petro, en se lançant dans une violente diatribe anti-Trump.

      « Je n’aime pas ton pétrole, Trump ; tu vas anéantir l’espèce humaine à cause de ta cupidité », a d’abord lancé le dirigeant colombien, avant d’accuser son homologue américain de le considérer, lui, mais aussi ses compatriotes comme « une race inférieure ».

      « Tu peux essayer de provoquer un coup d’Etat avec ta force économique et ton arrogance, comme [en 1973 avec le président chilien] Allende. Mais je mourrai avec la loi de mon côté ; j’ai résisté à la torture et je te résisterai, poursuit le président Petro. Tu me tueras, mais je survivrai dans mon peuple, qui a précédé le tien dans les Amériques. Tu n’aimes pas notre liberté, d’accord. [Pour ma part], je ne serre pas la main des esclavagistes blancs ; je serre la main des héritiers libertaires blancs de Lincoln et des paysans noirs et blancs des Etats-Unis. »

      Le matin même, Gustavo Petro avait révoqué l’autorisation diplomatique de transport donnée la veille par son gouvernement, forçant les avions américains – deux C17 pouvant transporter 80 passagers –, à faire demi-tour en vol.

      « Les Etats-Unis ne peuvent pas traiter les migrants colombiens comme des criminels. Je refuse l’entrée sur notre territoire des avions américains les transportant. [Washington doit] établir un protocole pour leur traitement digne », a tweeté le président colombien, en précisant plus tard : « Nous n’avons jamais refusé d’accueillir des migrants et nous avons essayé de stopper l’immigration… Mais n’exigez pas que j’accepte des personnes expulsées des Etats-Unis, menottées et dans des avions militaires. Nous ne sommes la colonie de personne. »
