Ce matin, les Forces de défense israéliennes (FDI) ont tiré sur les soldats de la paix de la #FINUL depuis un char Merkava près d’une position qu’Israël a établie en territoire libanais.
De lourdes balles de mitrailleuses ont frappé à environ cinq mètres des soldats de la paix, qui étaient à pied et ont dû se mettre à l’abri sur le terrain.
Les gardiens de la paix ont demandé à l’armée israélienne d’arrêter de tirer par les canaux de liaison de l’UNIFIL. Ils ont pu partir en toute sécurité trente minutes plus tard, lorsque le char Merkava s’est retiré à l’intérieur de la position de Tsahal. Heureusement, personne n’a été blessé.
Cela représente une violation grave de la résolution 1701 du Conseil de sécurité.

The Israeli military said in a statement that its troops opened fire on two UNIFIL personnel in southern Lebanon after mistakenly identifying them as a threat amid poor weather conditions.
In its statement, the IDF said it had fired warning shots at the UN soldiers after classifying them as suspects, before confirming their identities.

Yesterday morning, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) drones dropped four grenades close to #UNIFIL peacekeepers working to clear roadblocks hindering access to a UN position close to the Blue Line.

UNIFIL is concerned by the recent aggressive posture of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) involving UNIFIL personnel and assets near the Blue Line, including yesterday’s incident in which a direct fire hit the perimeter of a UNIFIL position south of the village of Kfar Shouba.
This marks the first time a UNIFIL position has been directly hit since the 27 November cessation of hostilities understanding while in this period UNIFIL has observed at least four other incidents involving IDF fire near its positions along the Blue Line.
In recent days, UNIFIL has also observed other aggressive behaviour by the IDF towards peacekeepers performing operational activities in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1701.
Also yesterday, UNIFIL peacekeepers performing a patrol with the Lebanese army near Maroun ar-Ra’s reported being targeted by a laser from a nearby IDF position.
In another incident south of Alma ash-Shaab on 7 May, laser beams were pointed towards a UNIFIL patrol from two IDF Merkava tanks. As the patrol began to move, a drone flew approximately five metres above it, following the patrol for about a kilometre.
Separately, on the same day, an aerial vehicle repeatedly flew over a UNIFIL position east of Houla.

This afternoon, a UNIFIL convoy bringing newly-arrived peacekeepers to south Lebanon was passing Saida when a drone strike occurred nearby.
Five peacekeepers were lightly injured and treated by the Lebanese Red Cross on the spot. They will continue to their posts. The Lebanese Army also confirmed three of its soldiers at the nearby checkpoint were injured.

On 22 October, peacekeepers on duty at a permanent observation post near Dhayra were observing IDF soldiers conducting house clearing operations nearby. Upon realizing they were being observed, the IDF soldiers fired at the post. The duty guards withdrew to avoid being shot.

Early this morning, peacekeepers at a UN position in Ramyah observed three platoons of IDF soldiers crossing the Blue Line into Lebanon.
At around 4:30 a.m., while peacekeepers were in shelters, two IDF Merkava tanks destroyed the position’s main gate and forcibly entered the position. They requested multiple times that the base turn out its lights.
The tanks left about 45 minutes later after UNIFIL protested through our liaison mechanism, saying that IDF presence was putting peacekeepers in danger.
At around 6:40 a.m., peacekeepers at the same position reported the firing of several rounds 100 metres north, which emitted smoke.
Despite putting on protective masks, fifteen peacekeepers suffered effects, including skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions, after the smoke entered the camp. The peacekeepers are receiving treatment.
In addition, yesterday, IDF soldiers stopped a critical UNIFIL logistical movement near Meiss ej Jebel, denying it passage. The critical movement could not be completed.
For the fourth time in as many days, we remind the IDF and all actors of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN premises at all times.
Breaching and entering a UN position is a further flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolution 1701 (2006). Any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and resolution #1701.

Recent escalation along the Blue Line is causing widespread destruction of towns and villages in south Lebanon, while rockets continue to be launched towards Israel, including civilian areas.
In the past days we have seen incursions from Israel into Lebanon in Naqoura and other areas. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers have clashed with Hizbullah elements on the ground in Lebanon.
UNIFIL’s Naqoura headquarters and nearby positions have been repeatedly hit.
This morning, two peacekeepers were injured after an IDF Merkava tank fired its weapon toward an observation tower at UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura, directly hitting it and causing them to fall. The injuries are fortunately, this time, not serious, but they remain in hospital.
IDF soldiers also fired on UN position (UNP) 1-31 in Labbouneh, hitting the entrance to the bunker where peacekeepers were sheltering, and damaging vehicles and a communications system. An IDF drone was observed flying inside the UN position up to the bunker entrance.
Yesterday, IDF soldiers deliberately fired at and disabled the position’s perimeter-monitoring cameras. They also deliberately fired on UNP 1-32A in Ras Naqoura, where regular Tripartite meetings were held before the conflict began, damaging lighting and a relay station.
Any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and of Security Council resolution 1701.
We are following up with the IDF on these matters.

La force de l’ONU déployée entre le Liban et Israël a accusé jeudi les troupes israéliennes de tirer « de façon répétée » sur ses positions, faisant état de deux Casques bleus indonésiens blessés, ce qui a déclenché une levée de boucliers diplomatique.
La Force intérimaire des Nations unies au Liban (Finul), dont 10 000 soldats sont déployés dans le sud du pays, appelle depuis le début de l’escalade entre l’armée israélienne et le Hezbollah à l’arrêt des hostilités.
Jeudi matin, a-t-elle annoncé, « deux Casques bleus ont été blessés après qu’un char Merkava de l’armée israélienne a tiré sur une tour d’observation du QG de la Finul » à Naqoura, « la touchant directement et provoquant la chute » des deux hommes. De nationalité indonésienne selon une porte-parole de la Finul, ces derniers sont « encore à l’hôpital » mais « leurs blessures ne sont pas graves ».
« Les soldats israéliens ont également tiré sur une position de l’ONU à Ras al-Naqoura, touchant l’entrée du bunker où des Casques bleus avaient trouvé abri et endommageant des véhicules et des systèmes de communication », poursuit la Finul dans un communiqué.
Mercredi, « des soldats israéliens ont délibérément tiré sur les caméras de la position, les mettant hors d’usage et ont également tiré délibérément sur une position où des réunions tripartites se tenaient régulièrement avant que ce conflit n’éclate », selon la même source.

BEIRUT, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) — The spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Andrea Tenenti said Thursday that the UNIFIL strongly disapproves of the daily Israeli violation of Lebanon’s airspace.
“Using Lebanon’s airspace violates Lebanon’s sovereignty and UN Resolution 1701. These violation contradict with our goals and efforts of minimizing the level of tension while creating a stable atmosphere in southern Lebanon,” Tenenti was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper.
Tenenti said that UNIFIL’s Chief Stefano Del Col has called on #Israel on several occasions to stop its violation of Lebanon’s airspace.
Israeli warplanes have kept violating Lebanon’s airspace in the past few months, prompting Lebanese President Michel Aoun to call on the United States to pressure Israel to stop such practices.

A shepherd kidnapped Tuesday by Israeli forces in southeast Lebanon was handed over to #UNIFIL late Wednesday, who then released him to the Lebanese authorities, state media reported. Ismail Khalil Nabaa returned to Lebanon via the Naqoura crossing in the southwest, an estimated 60 kilometers west of the town where he was abducted. Israeli occupation forces on Thursday abducted five people from the Bastra farms of the southern Lebanese town of Shebaa, state news reported. Lebanon’s National News Agency identified the kidnapped as Hassan and Ismail Qassem Zahra, Nouhad Awad, Wafa Moussa, Woroud Moussa. Television networks Al-Manar and NBN reported that the three women in the group have been released, while brothers Hassan and Ismail remain in Israeli custody. The brothers are reportedly shepherds. Un ressortissant libanais faisait partie du groupe des 19 personnes impliquées dans les attentats du 11 septembre (Ziad Jarrah, pilote de l’avion qui s’est écrasé en Pennsylvanie). Certains d’entre eux continuent de jouer un rôle à partir des prisons libanaises ou des camps de réfugiés palestiniens (camp d’Ein el-Hilweh notamment). En 2007, les djihadistes palestiniens de Fatah al-Islam, retranchés dans le camp de Nahr al-Bared, ont combattu l’armée libanaise pendant plusieurs mois. Les Brigades Abdullah Azzam ont revendiqué des attaques sur les forces de l’ONU (FINUL/ UNIFIL). La guerre en Syrie contre le régime d’Assad a suscité des vocations libanaises. “It was not until Sept. 11, 2001, that people started talking seriously about the Lebanese connection to al-Qaeda. The name of Ziad Jarrah, one of the 19 men who took part in the Sept. 11 attacks, emerged and people started asking seriously then whether al-Qaeda was present in Lebanon.
In Beirut, I met Abu Baraa, a code name used by our source who was once an inmate of Roumieh prison’s Islamist building. He fought with Kanj in Dounieh, but now he’s doing nothing but “preaching Islam.” He saw several of his “brothers,” the word used by Islamists when mentioning comrades, working from the prison without any interference from Lebanese security forces. “We had phones, and I have recently learned that prisoners have Internet access now; they used to communicate with the outside world and give orders.” According to Abu Baraa, Lebanese jihadists should be grateful to the Palestinians for where they are now. Palestinian jihadists, along with a few Lebanese, had the chance “to go to Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, etc. … and come back more experienced, with a larger network, capable of tougher tactics, and they also helped in providing hideouts for the brothers whenever they needed it.”
Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon are a busy hub for jihadists. Ain al-Hilweh camp in Sidon, southern Lebanon, is home to several groups — Abdullah Azzam Brigades, Osbat al-Ansar, Jund al-Sham and others are active groups which are now exporting experts to Syria.” (…)
