Postcard is a new email client for GNOME sporting a modern design reminiscent of #geary. The app is the work of a solo developer, gxanshu on GitHub, who is upfront about using AI coding tools to bring this “modern mail client” to life. Postcard is written in Python with GTK4/libadwaita. It uses imaplib and smtplib for networking, a local SQLite index for searching, WebKitGTK for rendering HTML and libsecret for keeping passwords safe. #Anthropic said the system is working as intended.

A trove of chat logs and projects created with Anthropic’s #Claude — some including sensitive personal and company information — have been left exposed to Google, making them them searchable to anyone on the web.

Many of the materials appear to have been made public when Claude users opted to distribute a given chat or project to colleagues or associates using the chatbot’s “share” feature. After hitting the “share” button in the top right corner, Claude notes that sharing will create a “public” link, which “anyone with the link can view.” The warning, though, doesn’t alert users that shared content could wind up being indexed by a search engine — meaning that a user could effectively be sharing their Claude-generated document with the entire internet.

Other materials were shared in the form of Claude #Artifacts, a feature that allows users to save certain projects as standalone apps or tools. That platform does warn users that publishing an Artifact “will make it accessible to anyone on the internet and potentially visible in search engine results.”

Some of the materials exposed to the web and indexed by #Google, such as #personal_websites and some #vibe-coded_apps, appear to have been created for public consumption. But much of the discoverable content seems as though it was only intended to be shared internally at a company, or between a small handful of people.

Since Large Language Models (LLMs) are an emerging but controversial technology, it is not surprising that two of the votes were concerned with Codeberg’s position about this technology. The 14-day voting period ended yesterday and both proposals were accepted.

Hier, petite anecdote échangée. Une connaissance qui a filé un billet à un quidam prétendant arriver au bout, pour au final avoir une application vibecodée qui ne fonctionne pas, et que ce n’est même pas réparable.

Tu me diras, c’était déjà le cas avant le vibecoding, tu en as vu un certain nombre de clients, avec des applications pourries, à l’authentification non fonctionnelle, et aux fonctionnalités à moitié buguées. Au moins trois clients sont exactement dans ce cas, dans les 10 dernières années. Allez, même 4 dans ce qu’on héberge. Cette 4ème, c’est une application achetée à une société sérieuse, chef de projet sérieux, mais codée par le stagiaire. L’application n’a pas supporté la mise en production avec des données un petit peu plus grosse qu’au démarrage. Au bout de 5 années de mauvais service, ils nous ont demander de repasser sur tous les traitements, pour les optimiser et nous permettre d’hurler à chaque requête et chaque algorithme. C’est facile de critiquer hein. Mais on ne file pas une application professionnelle à un stagiaire sans lui indiquer les design patterns à respecter à chaque étape un petit peu sensible.

Le vibecoding, c’est la même chose. Mais on n’aura jamais de développeur à haïr pour les âneries produites et mises à la poubelle et reproduites, et remises à la poubelle. Pour de vrai, on a juste décidé d’accélérer le rythme.

#Generative_AI is changing how software is produced and used. In vibe coding, an #AI #agent builds software by selecting and assembling #open-source software (#OSS), often without users directly reading documentation, reporting bugs, or otherwise engaging with maintainers. We study the equilibrium effects of #vibe_coding on the OSS ecosystem. We develop a model with endogenous entry and heterogeneous project quality in which OSS is a scalable input into producing more software. Users choose whether to use OSS directly or through vibe #coding. Vibe coding raises #productivity by lowering the cost of using and building on existing code, but it also weakens the #user_engagement through which many maintainers earn returns. When OSS is #monetized only through direct user engagement, greater adoption of vibe coding lowers entry and sharing, reduces the availability and quality of OSS, and reduces welfare despite higher productivity. Sustaining OSS at its current scale under widespread vibe coding requires major changes in how maintainers are paid.
