– Joumblatt et le ministre de la Justice du Liban considèrent que le tribunal doit servir à « faire peur » à la Syrie (et que, jusque là, il n’a pas « été suffisant ») ;
– en mai 2008, d’après Rizk, Daniel Bellemare raconte à ses interlocuteurs qu’« il n’a pas d’affaire », plus de trois ans après l’assassinat ; pour rappel, selon Georges Malbrunot, la piste des « téléphones mobiles » (qui accusent le Hezbollah) aurait relancé l’enquête, c’est « à partir de mai 2007 » :

– Rizk semble penser (à tort, à raison ?) que les américains peuvent envoyer un de leurs diplomates peser sur Bellemare ;
