Scholars and Friday khatibs [preachers] yesterday paid tribute to the Grand Imam of Cairo’s Al-Azhar, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyib, for his honourable stance in support of #Bahrain.

Egypt’s top cleric told visiting Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinezhad last Tuesday not to interfere in the affairs of Bahrain or the Gulf states and to respect the rights of his country’s Sunni minority. Nuf al-Nasar Mosque imam Dr Abd-al-Rahman al-Fadhl described the cleric’s stance as a slap in the face of Iran to stop its belligerent designs against Sunnis.

He slammed the escalation of terror and acts of sabotage as Bahrain is heading towards resumption of the National Dialogue, scheduled to start tomorrow. “Terrorists and saboteurs are still causing mayhem days before the dialogue. This is dangerous. This is unbelievable,” he said
