Health minister calls for probe into deaths at Kamal Adwan Hospital

Dr Mai al-Kaila says there are media reports that wounded Palestinians, patients and displaced people were crushed by Israeli bulldozers in the yard of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

Al Jazeera Arabic’s reporter Anas al-Sharif filmed the scene after the Israeli army withdrew, saying the “stench of death was indescribable”.

According to witness testimony, information from medics, and media reports, Israeli forces “buried people alive in the hospital yard”.

“There needs to be an urgent probe into these reports,” al-Kaila said in a statement.

Israeli military says 90 arrested at besieged hospital

The arrests were made after the Israeli military besieged Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza for at least six days.

Earlier, the Palestinian health minister called for an investigation into reports that wounded Palestinians, patients and displaced people were crushed by Israeli bulldozers in the yard of Kamal Adwan.

Israel’s military also released videos of weapons it claimed were found at the medical complex. It said the arms are proof Hamas used the hospital to launch attacks. Israel has repeatedly accused Hamas of using hospitals as “human shields”, a claim repeatedly rejected.

Under international law, Israel would have to prove any attacks on medical facilities were proportional to the threat posed, if the facilities were in fact used by fighters. There has been no independent investigation into Israel’s claims.

Les Palestiniens à la recherche de leurs proches après l’attaque du bulldozer israélien

Dans ce qui était autrefois la cour de l’hôpital Kamal Adwan, dans le nord de la bande de Gaza, les Palestiniens ont pataugé dans les décombres, à la recherche de cadavres.

Les forces israéliennes sont accusées d’avoir écrasé à mort, à l’aide de bulldozers, des Palestiniens qui s’abritaient à l’extérieur de l’hôpital.

À l’extérieur de la cour de l’hôpital, où l’on pouvait voir des traces de chars et de bulldozers, Abu Mohammed, venu chercher son fils, se tenait en pleurs. « Je ne sais pas comment je vais le retrouver », a-t-il dit en montrant les débris.

Les troupes israéliennes ont pris d’assaut l’hôpital au cours d’un siège de plusieurs jours, selon le ministère de la santé de Gaza. L’armée israélienne affirme que le Hamas utilisait l’établissement comme centre de commandement. Elle a porté des accusations similaires sur d’autres hôpitaux, qui se sont révélées fausses.
