Le milliardaire Pierre Omidyar, qui veut fonder un nouveau type de journalisme avec Greenwald et 250 M$, a déjà à son actif la destruction d’organisations de microfinance, de philanthropie, le site couchsurfing, etc.

the organization that funded Couchsurfing’s transition from nonprofit to profit-driven company (...): the Omidyar Network. Again, it saw markets and profit as a way to scale up a non-market operation, and again the #profit motive is driving out the non-commercial effort that is needed to sustain a trusting community.
Update (October 15 2013): Couchsurfing’s CEO just resigned and 40% of the staff was layed off.

C’est pas comme si en France on n’était pas habitué-e-s à ce que les milliardaires possèdent les médias…
J’imagine qu’il va fortement encourager les articles sur certains des principaux enjeux actuels : une certaine prudence sur la technologie ou les enquêtes critiques des inégalités sociales.
Le #journalisme_radical ce serait plutôt l’association de professionnel-le-s de la presse et de militant-e-s pour un changement radical de société ;-)

We want to do a better job bringing important investigative stories or deep human stories that tend to be overlooked to a broader audience and we can use technology to figure out how to do that. It isn’t as simple as just throwing something in their faces about an important issue. That’s just like a public service ad and will likely be ignored.
Technologists understand our users and break down how user engagement increases from somebody that maybe just tries your product once and then goes away, to a different kind of person that progressively gets more and more engaged and then becomes just totally locked into your product. That’s something people in Silicon Valley spend a ton of time analyzing, working on and thinking about.
