JBUDAPEST – Le Premier ministre Benjamin Netanyahu a critiqué l’Union européenne dans des termes inhabituellement virulents mercredi, au sujet de la façon dont elle traite Israël, et a exhorté les dirigeants des 4 pays d’Europe centrale à faire usage de leur influence au sein de l’Union pour faciliter l’amélioration des relations bilatérales.

« Je pense que l’Europe doit décider si elle veut vivre et prospérer ou si elle veut flétrir et disparaitre », a-t-il dit dans un entretien à huis-clos qui a été accidentellement retransmis à des journalistes à l’extérieur.

« Je ne fais pas dans le politiquement correct. Je sais que c’est un choc pour nombre d’entre vous. C’est une blague. Mais la réalité est ce qu’elle est… à la fois en ce qui concerne la sécurité de l’Europe et son futur économique. Ces deux domaines requièrent une politique différente envers Israël. »

The bombastic remarks, which bizarrely predicated Europe’s future on its attitude towards #Israel – not one of the most burning issues on an EU agenda confronting the challenges of immigration, Brexit and economic growth – were made in a meeting with the leaders of Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland, whom Netanyahu urged to close their doors to refugees from Africa and the Middle East.

“I think Europe has to decide if it wants to live and thrive or if it wants to shrivel and disappear,” he said. “I am not very politically correct. I know that’s a shock to some of you. It’s a joke. But the truth is the truth – both about Europe’s security and Europe’s economic future. Both of these concerns mandate a different policy toward Israel.”
