The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has reported that detainee Khader Adnan, who has been holding a hunger strike for fifty consecutive days, is facing serious health complications.

The head of the Legal unit of the PPS, attorney Jawad Boulos, said Adnan suffered a very serious weight loss, and is facing constant fatigue, vomiting blood, in addition to having problems in his left eye.

Boulos managed to visit Adnan, Monday, at the Ramla prison, and said the detainee informed him that he is still refusing medical checkups, vitamins and boosters, adding that his strike continues until he is freed again.

Adnan told Boulos that Israel has stripped him of his freedom, yet again, under vague and unrealistic allegations, and added that he is being held under dire conditions in al-Jalama prison.

Adnan also said that the prison administration held him in solitary confinement for seventeen consecutive days in a very small cell, with a broken toilet seat, and filled with bugs and insects.

It is worth mentioning that, in the period between 2012 and this year, 2018, Adnan held three hunger strike demanding an end to his arbitrary Administrative Detention, without charges or trial.

In 2012, Adnan held a hunger strike for 66 days, and in 2015, he went on strike for 54 days.

Adnan, 40, from the northern West Bank governorate of Jenin, spent at least 8.5 years in Israeli prisons, after he was abducted and detained by the soldiers eleven times.

He is a married father of seven children, the oldest, Ma’ali, is ten years of age, and the youngest, Mariam, is only 18 months.

Israël suspend la détention sans procès d’un Palestinien en grève de la faim

Jérusalem - La justice israélienne a suspendu jeudi la détention sans inculpation ni procès d’un journaliste palestinien en grève de la faim depuis 72 jours, dont l’état de santé a alarmé des organisations internationales.

Nous suspendons l’ordre de détention administrative de Mohammed al-Qiq en raison de son état de santé, a annoncé la Cour suprême. Ses proches peuvent à présent lui rendre visite, mais il n’a pas le droit de quitter sans autorisation l’hôpital d’Afoula (nord d’Israël) où il se trouve, a décidé le tribunal.

Mohammed al-Qiq, 33 ans, reporter de la chaîne saoudienne Al-Majd, a été arrêté le 21 novembre chez lui en Cisjordanie occupée. Il a été placé mi-décembre en détention administrative, régime extrajudiciaire qui permet la détention sans inculpation ni procès pour des périodes de six mois renouvelables indéfiniment.

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Israel’s top court on Thursday suspended the detention without trial of Palestinian prisoner Muhammad al-Qiq citing medical concerns, as the prisoner passed his 72nd day on hunger strike.

Head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society Qadura Fares told Ma’an that the court was freezing his six-month administrative detention order until his health improved.

He stressed that order had not dismissed, and that al-Qiq was likely to remain on hunger strike. “It’s a bad decision,” Fares said. “I don’t believe he will accept it.”

He said that al-Qiq may use the opportunity to accept medical treatment, and to seek a better solution. Al-Qiq has said that he will continue with his hunger strike until “freedom or death.”

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — The Israeli military court of the Ofer prison in the occupied West Bank rejected an appeal to end the administrative detention of hunger-striking Palestinian prisoner Muhammad al-Qiq on Saturday.

Palestinian Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Qaraqe told Ma’an that the court ruled to maintain the six-month administrative detention period for al-Qiq, despite the continuation of a more than 50-day hunger strike by the prisoner.

Al-Qiq began the strike on Nov. 24, 2015, to protest his administrative detention, which allows Israel to hold him on secret evidence without charge for six-month intervals that can be renewed indefinitely.

Qaraqe said the court’s rejection of the appeal “proves intentions of revenge” by Israel against the Palestinian prisoner, referring to al-Qiq’s detention as arbitrary as Israeli prosecution had yet to press specific charges against him.

A lawyer for the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, Jawad Boulos, told Ma’an earlier this week that the 33-year-old journalist has been held at the HaEmek Medical Center in Afula handcuffed to a hospital bed, and that he was in critical condition.

Ramallah (Territoires palestiniens) - Le prisonnier palestinien Khader Adnane a mis fin dimanche soir à sa grève de la faim qui durait depuis 56 jours après qu’Israël a accepté de le libérer, ont annoncé son avocat et le Club des prisonniers palestinien.

En prison depuis un an sous le régime de la détention administrative, qui permet l’incarcération sans inculpation pour des périodes de six mois renouvelables indéfiniment, M. Adnane, 37 ans, était au coeur des inquiétudes dans les Territoires occupés, officiels et militants ayant récemment multiplié les alertes, assurant qu’il pouvait mourir à tout instant.

Khader Adnane a mis fin à sa grève de la faim cette nuit, après qu’un accord a été conclu pour sa libération le 12 juillet, a affirmé à l’AFP Me Jawad Boulos, ajoutant que les médecins de l’hôpital israélien dans lequel il a été transféré étudiaient actuellement les moyens de recommencer à le nourrir.

Dans un communiqué, le Club des prisonniers palestinien a également confirmé que M. Adnane avait interrompu sa grève de la faim.

M. Adnane avait été arrêté il y un an, peu après l’enlèvement et l’assassinat de trois jeunes Israéliens, qui avait entraîné une vague d’interpellations de plusieurs centaines de Palestiniens en Cisjordanie occupée.

Il avait déjà mené en 2012 une grève de la faim qui avait duré 66 jours pour dénoncer sa détention. Il avait été libéré à l’issue de cette grève, durant laquelle il n’avait ingéré que des vitamines et du sel. Cette fois-ci, il refuse d’ingurgiter quoi que ce soit, si ce n’est de l’eau.
