Write Thin to Write Fast
▻https://breckyunits.com/write-thin-to-write-fast.html
I want to write faster.
This takes practice and there aren’t a lot of shortcuts.
But I did find one shortcut this year:
Set a thin column width in your editor
Mine is 36 characters (your ideal width may be different).

There is no musical instrument like the human voice. Scientists still grapple with fully comprehending the physiology of the human body. Indeed, we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Ps. 139:14). The human voice goes with us wherever we are and is not bound by transport or location like other instruments.

The Future fills me with dismay;
Unless Thou hasten to relieve,
Thy suppliant is a castaway.

5 Ways to Create More Structure in Life (With Examples)

Establishing structure does not mean you need to plan every little detail in your life with no room for spontaneity. Having structure means keeping a schedule or routine, which includes making time for yourself, and activities that bring you joy.
From flexibility to structure | annie mueller

I didn’t realize how much I relied on urgency as a substitute for structure. It wasn’t good. I don’t recommend it. So now I’m learning, or trying to learn, how to give myself structure, how to set limits. Flexibility has served me well. I needed it. Now I need to shift into something different.
Why I write — Randal, plain and simple

Explaining things has acquired a bad name, but writing is a means of ─ in the widest possible meaning of the term ─ evangelizing. Everybody is an evangelist, even if to recommend keeping to oneself.

Relentless Belief – Ronald Reagan
▻https://amac.us/newsline/society/relentless-belief-ronald-reagan
If you believe in something firmly, raising money for MS or cancer, enthusing others to work on a big project, a principle, a right, the rights of others, some abiding truth – then speak that truth. That was what Reagan did, and never stopped doing. He was relentlessly cheerful, focused, and centered.

Salvation is not an experience. Experience is merely the gateway by which we become conscious of our salvation. Never preach the experience; preach the great thought of God.

Daily Prayer: prayer for a fresh start
▻https://thedailyprayerblog.blogspot.com/2024/04/prayer-for-fresh-start.html
If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely.
If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly.
If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently.
If I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly.
I pray just for today, for these twenty-four hours, for the ability to cooperate with others according to the way Jesus taught us to live.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
May these words that he taught us become more than words.
Please free my thinking and feelings and the thinking and feelings of others,
from all forms of self-will, self-centeredness, dishonesty, and deception.
(2) Characteristics of Faith from Hebrews 11 - by Eddie Parrish

The writer of Hebrews, in his tremendous chapter on faith (chapter 11), reveals no less than 14 characteristics of faith.

In my experience, the author’s second point is simply not true.
On the third point, the NT teaches that Jesus established the church but no other “institution.” Today’s congregations spend their monies mostly on themselves. Congregations are fickle and drop support at a whim. Missionaries are the first to be cut. So much to say on this point.

Prohibition 1920-1933 | Free daily devotional
▻https://www.abiblecommentary.com/blog/2024/04/15/prohibition-1920-1933
I grew up in Florida, and one summer I became close friends to an old fisherman. He was a Prohibition Officer during the 1930’s. He would tell me stories of being assigned to watch Al Capone when he would come down on the train. He told me many times to never believe anyone who said prohibition did not work.
“Yes,” he said, “the people that wanted to drink could always find some moonshine or illegal booze. But,” he emphasized, “that the vast majority obeyed the law, did not drink, and our society was much better for it.” Since alcohol has become legal how many crimes have been committed, innocent lives lost, and families destroyed by those under its powerful influence?

I’ve Heard It Said That the Bible Is God’s Love Letter to Us | Crossway Articles
▻https://www.crossway.org/articles/ive-heard-it-said-that-the-bible-is-gods-love-letter-to-us
It’s probably more accurate to say that the Bible is God’s expansive and glorious declaration of “I Am,” of who he is. It’s that statement that he makes in Exodus, unpacked across all sixty-six books for us. And I think the reason that we gravitate more toward the phrase that we’ve heard about it being a love letter to us is because we very much want to feel that personal connection to a transcendent God.
Peter Leithart on X: “A rough chiastic outline of Acts 1-12.” / X

A rough chiastic outline of Acts 1-12. Impressionistic, but seems to work as far as it goes. Stephen is definitely the hinge of the narrative.

F. Peter & John heal a lame man (and aftermath), 3:1-4:37
G. Ananias and Sapphira, 5:1-11
H. The Seven (including Philip), 6:1-7
I. Stephen, 6:8-8:3
H’. Philip’s ministry, 8:4-40
G’. Saul and Ananias, 9:1-31
F’. Peter heals Aeneas and Dorcas, 9:32-43
D’. Peter’s vision and final sermon, 10:1-43
C’. The Spirit comes to Cornelius’s household, 10:44-48
B’. Peter speaks among disciples about Cornelius, 11:1-18
A’. Peter “rises” from prison and leaves, 12:1-24
