  • #Taliban seen with SCAR rifle commonly carried by American commandos
    http://www.militarytimes.com/articles/scar-taliban-us-weapons-propaganda-video

WASHINGTON — In a propaganda film posted to the Taliban’s official website, a fighter can be seen carrying a FN SCAR 7.62mm rifle, a weapon commonly issued to U.S. special operators, such as Marine Raiders and Army Rangers.

The 70-minute video titled “Omari Army 5,” produced by Al Emarah Studio — a media branch of the Taliban— showcases seven Taliban training bases and military training exercises being carried out by the resurgent militant group.

The video also displays U.S. weapon systems and optics commonly carried by American soldiers and Marines.

Attached to the rifle is what appears to be an AN/PEQ 5 visible laser, which aids special operators in aiming and precision fires in close quarters.

Affixed to the rifle’s side rail mount is a past model Surefire flashlight, issued to special operators as part of the older generation of Special Operations Peculiar Modification Kits — assorted optics, lasers and night vision equipment issued to American commandos that can be attached to an M4 carbine or SCAR rifle.

In terms of how U.S. military gear could wind up in the hands of the Taliban, #Afghanistan is a major market for illicit arms trafficking and plenty of these weapons are frequently captured by the Taliban during raids on Afghan troops.

The video prominently displays Ford Ranger trucks, for example, a vehicle supplied to the Afghan National Police by the U.S. The vehicles — and other equipment — are routinely captured by Taliban forces after attacks on poorly defended checkpoints.

“It would be more likely that the weapons were captured during an assault on a checkpoint, rather than raiding an armory or a base," Capt. William Salvin, a spokesperson for Operation Resolute Support, told Military Times.

“However, we can’t confirm where the weapons came from observed in the video,” Salvin added.

The U.S. supplies the Afghan army and its commando forces with M16s, M4s and ACOG sights through the Defense Department’s Afghan Security Forces Fund. The SCAR, however, is not part of the current inventory provided.

It is possible that Afghan forces are getting the SCAR through another Defense Department security assistance program, Salvin explained.

The rifle may have also been lost by U.S. forces last August, when American forces battling ISIS fighters in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, lost a SCAR and a host of other equipment — to include a tactical encrypted radio — as forces attempted to evacuate battlefield casualties, according to a report by the Washington Post.

“The August 2016 case is the only instance where an FN SCAR was not recovered from a mission,” Salvin told Military Times.

The FN SCAR is manufactured by FN Herstal, a Belgian company, and is also used by the British SAS, as well as special forces from Belgium, Lithuania, and Georgia.

Warning: This article contains video and images of extreme violence.

A gunman opened fire at the central bus station in Bir al-Saba (Beer Sheva), a city in the south of present-day Israel, on Sunday evening, killing an Israeli soldier and wounding up to 11 other people.

The assailant shot and killed a soldier and then “snatched his M-16 rifle” before opening fire on the others, most of whom were “members of Israel’s security forces,” Israel’s Ynet reported. Walla! News reported that four of the injured were soldiers.

Israeli police shot and killed the assailant.

Israeli media named the dead soldier as 19-year-old Sergeant Omri Levi. He was a member of the Israeli army’s Golani brigade, a unit involved in numerous war crimes against Palestinians.

Both Reuters and Ynet, citing Palestinian media, claimed that the assailant was Isam al-Araj from Shuafat, a neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem whose Palestinian residents have frequently been targeted with violence by Israeli occupation forces and settlers. This information had not been confirmed by any official source. It was also not apparent which Palestinian media had reported the claim.
    Death-chanting mob

During the incident, a security guard shot 29-year-old Haftom Zarhum, an Eritrean refugee who was “misidentified” as a “terrorist,” according to Haaretz. Zarhum later died of his injuries.

Zarhum came to Beer Sheva on Sunday to procure a visa.

Video captured by bystanders and posted to social media shows a mob of onlookers, including Israeli soldiers and police, kicking Zarhum in the head, pinning him under a chair and throwing a bench at him as he writhes on the floor, clearly in pain and bleeding severely.

  • Armed US Soldiers Arrested in Vienna Airport on Their Way to Ukraine
    http://sputniknews.com/europe/20150730/1025209858.html

A few days ago, a group of American soldiers caused a security alert at Vienna’s Schwechat airport. The men were stopped while trying to travel with army weapons to Ukraine without any necessary permits, the newspaper wrote.

The Austrian police had to intervene and remove the weapons. An investigation into the case was launched.

The nine US soldiers were on their way from Washington to Ukraine, where they were to be deployed.

“However, since there were problems with their connecting flight after a stopover in Schwechat, they had to rebook their flight and, therefore, leave the transit area,” Colonel Michael Bauer, Defense Ministry spokesman said.

M16 assault rifles and pistols were discovered in the luggage of the American soldiers at a security checkpoint. The incident caused huge shock, because the weapons were not declared and registered and, thus, carried illegally.

A Lebanese army soldier defected to the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front after abandoning his post in the eastern town of #Ersal overnight Tuesday, security sources told Al-Akhbar. Atef Saadeddine left the army to join the jihadi group after making off with three M16 rifles, night vision goggles and a walkie-talkie, the sources said. Saadeddine’s disappearance was initially believed to have been the result of a kidnapping, but it was quickly deduced that he had left voluntarily.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GvLkScJPeE

Video broadcast by Israel’s Channel 10 shows an Israeli soldier launching a brutal, unprovoked attack on several Palestinian workers.

Michael Gershkowitz of the Israeli army’s Kfir brigade, “attacked a group of Palestinian workers, beating three of them over and over again without mercy using his M-16 rifle,” Channel 10 said in a Hebrew-language report on Tuesday.

The horrifying incident occurred in April 2009 outside the Israeli Jewish-only settlement of Petzael in the occupied West Bank’s Jordan Valley, where the workers were waiting for their employers, but the shocking footage has only just been made public.

"“The Dow Chemical deal is one of the biggest financial crimes in the history of Kuwait,” said the grilling."

    http://gitm.kcorp.net/index.php?id=648101

Three MPs yesterday filed to grill Oil Minister Hani Hussein over a variety of violations and misconduct, mainly on the payment of the $ 2.2 billion penalty to US Dow Chemical after the government pulled out of a joint deal. Two other MPs meanwhile filed a second request to grill Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah alleging his failure to cooperate with the National Assembly and attempting to cover up a Kuwaiti “terror” cell having links with Islamists under trial in the United Arab Emirates.

The submission of the two grillings came after a morning of drama yesterday as MPs had initially planned to file three grillings against the oil minister, all focusing on the payment to Dow besides other alleged violations. But after a brief discussion, the three teams agreed to file one grilling to be signed by MPs Saadoun Hammad, Yacoub Al-Sane and Nasser Al-Marri, which highlighted four major violations with the Dow payment remaining the main issue. Besides the Dow issue, MPs also accused the minister of allowing commercial deals with Israel, not taking any action to prevent the sale of alcohol at Kuwait-owned petrol stations in Europe and approving illegal staff promotions at state-owned oil companies.

The three MPs also accused the minister of failing to take action to stop the sale of alcohol at thousands of petrol stations in Europe owned by Kuwait Petroleum International, a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corp (KPC). He also failed to punish officials who were responsible for maintaining Kuwaiti investments in a company in Europe even after an Israeli company bought a stake in it. The three MPs also accused the minister of approving a large number of staff promotions at oil companies that were in violation of Kuwaiti laws. [...]

Meanwhile, MPs Safa Al-Hashem and Youssef Al-Zalzalah filed to grill the interior minister over allegations he is not fully cooperating with the Assembly and over the theft of thousands of bullets from ministry stores. The two lawmakers called on the minister to resign because they have solid evidence about the accusations they made in the grilling. They charged that the minister failed to cooperate with MPs by first failing to implement a number of recommendations and also by not answering their questions as he only answered less than half of the questions.

They held the minister responsible for the robbery of thousands of bullets and even M16 automatic rifles from Interior Ministry stores and that he has failed to maintain law and order in the country, besides failing to implement thousands of court verdicts. But the main issue the lawmakers highlighted are accusations that the minister has refused to supply UAE authorities with information about a number of Kuwaiti Islamists – members of the Muslim Brotherhood – who have links with a group of Emirati Islamists on trial on charges of plotting to overthrow the government.

They said that the prime minister has acknowledged the information but the interior minister still told UAE authorities that there was no Muslim Brotherhood in Kuwait, thus undermining the security of Kuwait and its Gulf partner UAE. The two grillings are expected to be debated after two weeks unless the Assembly decides to delay the debate or for any other reason like a government resignation, the ministers’ resignations or others.

Kuwaiti Cabinet ministers resign amid standoff with MPs
      Kuwait Times - 15 May, 2013

In what appears to be the first confrontation with supposedly loyal MPs, the government boycotted the parliamentary session yesterday as all Cabinet ministers submitted their resignations to the prime minister a day after five MPs filed to grill the oil and interior ministers.

National Assembly Speaker Ali Al-Rashed told reporters after a meeting with Justice Minister Shareeda Al-Maousherji that he has been informed that “Cabinet ministers submitted their resignation to the prime minister and accordingly they will not attend the Assembly session tomorrow (today)”.

Kuwaiti Speaker rules out postponement of ministers’ grilling

Kuwait, May 15 (KUNA) - Speaker of the National Assembly Ali Fahad Al-Rashid on Wednesday [15 May] refuted recent press reports that he reached a deal with His Highness the Prime Minister Shaykh Jabir Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to put off the grillings of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Shaykh Ahmad Al-Humud Al-Sabah and Minister of Oil Hani Husayn.

“The allegations about the postponement of the two interpellations for three or four weeks are totally untrue and groundless speculations,” Al-Rashid told reporters.

“If there is any agreement with HH the Prime Minister in this regard, I would announce it in person via the official channels of the Assembly,” he made clear.

Al-Rashid urged the mass media which carried the reports citing what they called “a senior government official” to be more accurate and credible in their coverage.

Communities along Green Line beefing up civilian security - Haaretz Daily Newspaper | Israel News
    http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/communities-along-green-line-beefing-up-civilian-security-1.386145

One council had its security squad’s old rifles replaced with short-barrel M16 rifles. A kibbutz in the Sharon area formed a new squad, which the Border Police armed with rifles. Some communities bought weapons at their own expense for their security squads.

    [...]

In recent months the squads have been training to deal with possible riots. A shooting and combat drill in a built-up area, simulating the penetration of a terrorist into the community, is to be held in the central region today.

“These squads have achieved amazing results in preventing criminal activity in their communities,” Agniyahu says.

“After all, the kibbutzim and moshavim have veterans of the best elite IDF commando units,” he says.
