    https://imemc.org/article/israeli-soldiers-kill-two-palestinians-in-jenin-2

Israeli soldiers killed, Thursday morning, two young Palestinian men and injured at least six others, three seriously, in the Jenin governorate, in the northern part of the occupied West bank.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said dozens of soldiers invaded the al-Yamoun and Kafr Dan towns near Jenin, leading to protests before the soldiers shot six Palestinians with live fire and wounded many others with rubber-coated steel bullets and gas bombs.

It added that two of three seriously injured Palestinians succumbed to their wounds at the hospital.

They have been identified as Sha’s Fuad Kamaji, 29, from Kafr Dan village, northwest of Jenin, and Mustafa Faisal Abu ar-Rob, 31 , from Misilyah village, south of Jenin.

It is worth mentioning that Sha’s is the brother of Ayham Kamamji, one of six Palestinian detainees who escaped from the heavily fortified Gilboa’ Israeli prison in September 2021 before they were recaptured a week later.
Majd Kamamji, one of Sha’s brothers, said the soldiers detained him and his brothers Mohammad and Emad after the army failed to locate their brother Ahed when they tried to abduct him. (...)

  • Updated: “Seriously Injured Palestinian Woman Dies From Her Wounds” Apr 10, 2022 – – IMEMC News
    https://imemc.org/article/soldiers-shoot-a-palestinian-woman-in-bethlehem

On Sunday afternoon, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that the woman who was shot by the soldiers in Husan village, west of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank, has died from her serious wounds.

The Ministry said the woman, Ghada Ibrahim Ali Sabateen, 48, a widowed mother of six children, was shot in the thigh and added that the bullet severed an artery, leading to excessive bleeding.

Eyewitnesses denied the military allegations about the alleged stabbing attempt and said the soldiers seemed to be very frightened and on edge when they installed the roadblock at the eastern entrance of Husan town.

They added that, immediately after seeing Ghada walking in their direction, they started shouting at her, startling her, and causing her to panic, before they fired two rounds at the woman although she posed no threat to them.

The soldiers left Ghada bleeding without first aid while they “secured the area”, and later allowed the Palestinian medics to reach her before taking her to Beit Jala governmental hospital.

Israeli daily Haaretz said, “Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian woman in her forties after she approached them in a suspicious manner”.

Haaretz also said “no weapons were found on her person”, and that the army is allegedly “investigating the incident.”

    • IOF Kill Palestinian Woman at Military Checkpoint in Husan
10 April 2022 – Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
      https://pchrgaza.org/en/iof-kill-palestinian-woman-at-military-checkpoint-in-husan

Yesterday evening, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) killed a Palestinian woman after opening fire at her near an Israeli checkpoint in Husan, western Bethlehem, southern West bank. IOF unjustifiably targeted the woman under the pretext of approaching soldiers and not responding to their call to stop.

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), on Sunday morning, 10 April 2022, IOF established a checkpoint near eastern Husan village, western Bethlehem, to search the passers-by and check their IDs. At around 12:15, Ghada Ibrahim ‘Ali Sabatin (47), who was wearing glasses and abaya, crossed the street towards the Israeli soldiers who were on the pavement; 2 were behind a cement cube and one was in front of them. Video footage showed the woman walking on the pavement when she was targeted, and her hands were empty and did not carry anything. She approached where 3 soldiers positioned; two were behind cement cubes and one in front of them. The latter opened fire at the woman, wounding her in the left thigh, and she fell on the ground.

According to the investigations, when the passers-by attempted to help her, the soldiers forcibly pushed them away and fired teargas canisters at them. Meanwhile, the soldiers thoroughly searched the wounded woman and cut her clothes without giving her first aid. When they were sure she did not have any knife or tool, they allowed the passers-by after half an hour of severely bleeding to take her in a civilian vehicle to Beit Jala Hospital to receive treatment. Few minutes later, the medical crews at the hospital pronounced her death after succumbing to her injury caused by a bullet that penetrated the leg artery and massive blood loss due to being left to bleed for half an hour at the scene without offering her first aid.

PCHR’s investigations confirm that Sabateen was visually impaired and she did not pose threat or danger to the Israeli soldiers’ lives, and they could have controlled her without resorting to excessive force. Sabateen’s family affirmed that she had a visual impairment, and she was a widow and mother of 6 children from Husan village. The family added that Sabateen was heading to her relative’s house in the village. According to eyewitnesses, she approached the soldiers, although they warned her, perhaps because she was confused and stumbled while passing by the street adjacent to the soldiers, who did not give her enough time to obey their orders and immediately opened fire at her.

Later, the Israeli Spokesperson said in a statement that: “The woman approached a military force in a suspicious manner near Husan village. The force opened fire as part of a suspect arrest procedure that included firing into the air. After she did not stop, the soldiers fired at her lower body. The force provide first aid to her and she was then taken to the hospital for treatment. The incident is being investigated. “

Contrary to the IOF’s claims, the information collected by PCHR’s fieldworkers emphasize that the woman posed no threat to the Israeli soldiers’ lives; hence, opening fire at her was without any justification. Also, the soldiers did not even provide her first aid and left her bleeding for half an hour. After that, the soldiers allowed passersby to transfer her after she bled extensively.

This incident is part of IOF’s recurrent policy of using excessive force, especially “shoot to kill” policy near checkpoints and areas with military presence. Moreover, PCHR previously documented the killing of Palestinians, including women and children, on Israeli military checkpoints and other areas with military presence, mostly for alleged stab-attacks without the presence of a meaningful threat to soldiers’ lives.

She is the first Palestinian woman killed by IOF’s fire since the beginning of this year; hence, the Palestinian death toll rises to 22, including 5 children and a woman, in separate incidents in the West Bank; most of those killed and wounded were hurt in incidents of IOF excessive use of force against peaceful protests and gatherings.

    • Israeli Police Shoot Man Who Killed Two Israelis After 9-Hour Search
      Apr 8, 2022
      https://imemc.org/article/israeli-police-shoot-man-who-killed-two-israelis-after-9-hour-search

A Palestinian man who Israeli police believe was responsible for a shooting attack in Tel Aviv on Thursday was shot and killed by Israeli forces before dawn on Friday.

The Israeli forces had searched the city for hours after a man shot and killed two Israelis and wounded 8 others in a mass shooting in Tel Aviv.

They located 29-year-old Ra’ad Fathi Hazem , from Jenin refugee camp, near a mosque in Jaffa (the Palestinian city that was originally located in the place where Tel Aviv was built by Israeli colonizers and is now considered a ‘suburb’ of Tel Aviv).

The shooting took place at two locations on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv, which is a street with several bars and restaurants.

One of the Israelis killed in the attack was identified as 28-year-old old Tomer Morad, originally from Kfar Saba. Morad was an employee at Ilka Bar, on Dizengof Street.

According to Israeli sources, when he was discovered, Hazem fired ten bullets toward the officers who found him hiding near the mosque, and the Israeli police officers then shot and killed him.

    • The Palestinian perspective on the terror attack
      Gideon Levy | Apr. 10, 2022 | 1:00 AM | 40 Haaretz.com
      https://www.haaretz.com/opinion/.premium-a-perspective-from-the-palestinian-side-on-the-terror-attack-1.107

Raad Hazem was born on Kaf Tet B’November, 1993 – November 29, the date of the 1947 United Nations vote to partition Mandatory Palestine. He was born into the hope of the Oslo Accords and grew up in the catastrophe of Operation Defensive Shield. He was nine when the Israeli tanks invaded his refugee camp, destroyed its center and killed 56 of its inhabitants. This boy saw in the streets bodies that could not be buried until the army left, tanks that crushed the homes and cars of residents whose lives were wretched and a bulldozer that flattened the camp and “turned it into Teddy Stadium” – the home field of the Beitar Jerusalem soccer team, whose most vocal supporters are the notoriously anti-Arab La Familia group – as the digger’s driver bragged.

“Raad” means thunder in Arabic. On Thursday evening he sat on a bench on Tel Aviv’s Dizengoff Street for 20 minutes before he stood up and began shooting at people around his age who were enjoying happy hour at Ilka Bar. In the picture that was posted later he looks handsome; in a different picture, in which he clutches two rifles, he appears enraged and frightening. Hazem killed Tomer Morad, a mechanical engineering student; Eytam Magini, a computer science, psychology and neuroscience student; and Barak Lufan, a former Olympic athlete and the head coach of Israel’s national kayak team. All of them, like him, were young men.

It’s hard to imagine better casting for this story. No one can know for sure what went through his head, but we can assume that Hazem wanted to live the lives of his victims. He didn’t have even the smallest chance. He, too, would have wanted to study neuroscience or mechanical engineering, or to coach kayaking. He too would have wanted a happy hour. He would have wanted to serve in the military, like them, maybe even in an elite unit whose members boast about it. But he was born into a reality from which it’s impossible to escape into the worlds of his victims on Dizengoff. He couldn’t even get to Dizengoff the direct way, imprisoned as he was in his refugee camp, prohibited from entering Israel. He probably never saw the sea, and certainly not a kayak. Instead, he saw soldiers invading his camp almost nightly, mistreating and humiliating its residents, and members of his parents’ generation fighting and dying with courage and determination that have become iconic. There is no place as militant, armed and brave as the Jenin refugee camp.

The bench on Dizengoff was removed by security forces after the attack, in order to collect physical evidence of the man who had sat on it, when he was still unknown. But no DNA analysis can tell his story, just as a thousand police officers couldn’t find him when he was on the adjoining street. Police, Border Police, Shin Bet security service, Sayeret Matkal, Shaldag, Yamam, Yasam, Lotar and all the other military forces will never extinguish the fire of this struggle. All of these organizations, which train for years for exactly this moment, whose budgets exceed those of the health and education systems together, are no match for one resolute descendant of refugees in the moment of truth.

It was a mirror image that could have been from a movie. Young people from the same country, sitting across from each other: the so-called stranger on the public bench, tense and agitated, facing locals in a bar on Thursday evening. In the days preceding the terrible night friends of the guys in the bar, soldiers and Border Policemen, killed five young people in his refugee camp, and now he sets out to kill them indiscriminately.

The people facing him are the characters he would like to be, with the life he would like to live, the freedom and the opportunities he too would like to have. He wants to make his existence known and say: If I don’t have that life, those rights, you who sit in the bar facing me will also never have them. That’s the whole story. On top of it one can build piles of intelligence and weapons, punishment and deterrence, theories about bloodthirstiness and moral judgment, about murder and killing, war plans, operations and fences. In the end, that’s the story. This and no other. Nothing can beat it.

  • 29 US Senators call for Ceasefire; Biden Sends Israel Weapons amid Israeli attacks
    May 18, 2021 – – IMEMC News
    https://imemc.org/article/29-us-senators-call-for-ceasefire-amid-israeli-attacks

A group of 29 US Senators led by Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont have issued a statement calling on the Biden administration to take immediate action to broker a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in Gaza.

Both Ossoff and Sanders are Jewish progressives who have criticized the Israeli military occupation of Palestinian land, and the ongoing Israeli violations of international law.

The letter from the Senators comes after the US representative at the United Nations vetoed Security Council resolutions calling for a ceasefire three separate times since the Israeli bombardment of Gaza began on May 10th.

The Security Council is set to meet again on Tuesday May 18th, and several countries have vowed to continue the pressure on the US to stop blocking the other 14 Security Council members from calling for a ceasefire.

Axios.com reported Monday that an unnamed Israeli official told them that during a phone call with the Biden White House, “The overall message was that they support us but want this to end”, adding that the Biden administration didn’t give Israel a deadline to stop their bombardment of Gaza, but stressed that the US administration was “reaching the end of its ability to hold back international pressure on Israel over the Gaza operation.”

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has approved a $735 million weapons sale to Israel in the midst of the massive escalation that Israeli forces began one week ago.

The arms sale to Israel includes GBU-39 small diameter bombs, which are being used against Palestinian civilians. The House Foreign Affairs Committee called for an emergency meeting to discuss the sale, and to discuss the Israeli escalation.

Congressmember Ilhan Omar issued the following statement about the decision to move ahead with the $735 million weapon sale – which is in addition to the $3.5 billion of U.S. taxpayer money provided annually, unconditionally, to the state of Israel:

The statement from the U.S. Senators said, “To prevent any further loss of civilian life and to prevent further escalation of conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territories, we urge an immediate ceasefire.”

The Washington Post reported Monday that an unnamed Democrat from the House Foreign Affairs Committee told their reporter, “Allowing this proposed sale of smart bombs to go through without putting pressure on Israel to agree to a cease-fire will only enable further carnage.”

The slain man has been identified as Fadi Adnan Sarhan Samara , 37, a father of five children, including an infant (two months of age) from Abu Qash village, north of Ramallah.

(...) In a previous incident, at approximately 16:30 on Friday, 29 May 2020, IOF stationed at Raya valley area, between al-Nabi Saleh and Deir Nizam villages, in front of “Halamish” settlement, northwest of Ramallah, opened fire at a Palestinian vehicle driven by Fadi Adnan Samara Qa’d (37) from Abu Qash village, northwest of Ramallah. Qa’d was shot directly with a live bullet and left to bleed for more than two hours and half, without being given any first aid. Two hours and half later, an Israeli vehicle arrive and took Qa’d to an unknown destination. Later, Israeli Authorities announced Qa’d’s death due to Israeli forces’ shooting alleging the victim attempted to ram Israeli soldiers with his car; no casualties among soldiers were reported.

In contrast with the Israeli claims, according to information obtained by PCHR, Qa’d was driving his private Ford-Fiesta car (white) en route to al-Saweya village in Salfit to pick up his wife and 5 children from his in-law’s house. back home from their Grandfather’s house. Qa’d was met by an Israeli military vehicle parked in the street, six soldiers stepped out from the vehicle, and 3 of them ordered him to stop before he reached the military vehicle. Qa’d lost control of his car and steered his car north-bound, in the opposite direction from where the soldiers stood, and collided with a wooden bench under a tree. IOF, from a 10-meter distance, immediately opened fire at Qa’d’s car, and wounded him while he was inside. The soldiers left him to bleed for more than two hours and half, without providing any first aid, and prevented the Palestinian ambulances from approaching him. He was later taken to an unknown destination.
It should be noted that Qad’s car did not pose a threat or danger to the soldiers’ lives, and the fact it steered towards the opposite side from where soldiers stood proves the was no intent to ram them.

Israeli troops reportedly embarked on erecting a bypass road, on Tuesday, in the Huwara village, south of Nablus city in the northern occupied West Bank.

Local Palestinian media sources said that the road is seven kilometers-long and that it will be located on about 100 acres of Palestinian farm lands.

Ghassan Daghlas, chief of the file of Israeli colonial settlements, across the West Bank, told media outlets that Israeli army bulldozers have been bulldozing and razing Palestinian farm lands, for the second day consecutively.

Daghlas noted that the bulldozing will cause the destruction of a total of 2800 olive trees owned by Palestinians in the villages of Burin, Huwara Beta, Ourta, Yatma, Sawiya and Yasouf, located in southern Nablus city.

Noteworthy, the Israeli occupation government released, in April of 2019, footage of a new Israeli scheme for creating a road in Nablus city. The scheme involved 44 plans, many of which have reportedly been executed.

Such a scheme is believed to serve only the nearby Israeli colonial settlements, constructed illegally on Palestinian-owned lands.

Mustafa Younis , from Aara town, was killed by the guards after an argument at the entrance to the hospital. A video shows three security guards shooting Younis, who has his hands up and is standing near the driver’s side of his car.

The attack took place at Sheba hospital in Tel Aviv, where Younis had gone with his mother to seek treatment.

The three security guards all shot at him, with seven bullets hitting him at close range, killing him while his mother looked on, horrified but unable to stop the killing of her son.

Israeli sources claimed that the Mustafa tried to stab the guards, but that claim contradicts the video evidence — and there was no evidence presented to back the absurd claim. (...)

The statement called on the international community to pressure Israel to implement all relevant international resolutions regarding holy shrines across the occupied Palestinian territories.

The statement also noted that the decision regarding Hebron’s holy shrine could be a part of Israel’s continued attempts to annex Palestinian territories to the occupation state of Israel.

The Arab states demanded that the international community and the United Nations’ Security Council take action with regards to the situation in Palestine, in a way that would forge a just solution for the conflict, based on a long-anticipated two-state solution, with the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with the Israeli state.
