«  In her new book ’Furious Minds: The Making of the New MAGA Right,’ Laura K. Field outlines the camps that make up the American far-right and maps out the intellectuals fueling Donald Trump’s assault on liberal democracy. In an interview, she explains their rise and promises: ’They aren’t invincible’ »

[…] in the United States, the National Conservative camp (often shortened to NatCon) – which advocates for “defending Western civilization” by preserving America’s national and cultural identity, with a heavy focus on Christian Nationalism – is primarily associated with Yoram Hazony, an Israeli Jew that leads the movement’s flagship Edmund Burke Foundation and its annual National Conservatism Conference.

How does an Israeli Jew become the face of defending white Christian America? Field says there isn’t only one contributing factor. “After 2020, there was so much turmoil – COVID, the Black Lives Matter and George Floyd protests and riots. Around that time, the New York Times published the 1619 Project, a series of pieces marking 400 years since the first arrival of slaves to the United States,” she says. "That collection made the right absolutely lose their mind. They saw it as ’woke neo-Marxism’ had taken over culture.

"In a NatCon conference in 2022, Hazony said the only thing strong enough to stop these ’woke neo-Marxists’ is Christian nationalism. That’s a remarkable thing to say, but it fits very well with his vision that rational modernity and the Enlightenment have been a failure. We need to revert to a basically homogenous nation-state system.

“You wonder what will happen to American Jews in this place he’s trying to create.”
