Why Poor People Don’t Pay Attention to Politics

As far as I can tell, there are two plausible interpretations:
Society’s most privileged demographics — white, male, aging, and, above all, rich — have a better understanding of politics than everyone else.
The poor and oppressed don’t spend a lot of time consuming political infotainment — in part because they don’t have a lot of leisure time, in part because the media doesn’t focus on the issues that they care about, and in part because they’ve become politically disengaged from a party primary process that never serves them well. This does not mean that they are less informed about the issues that matter to them, or less intelligent — it just means that they’re investing their time and attention efficiently.
