Trust in God or what we have? – Forthright Magazine
▻http://forthright.net/2019/03/29/trust-in-god-or-what-we-have
Most people that I know want the best out of life and to have the best life possible. The man Jesus was talking with wanted this. From what we can see he was living a good life. He was a Jew, one of God’s chosen people, and he was faithfully, wholeheartedly, following God’s commands. But he was missing something. “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” he asked Jesus.
Yet not with a whole heart – Forthright Magazine

Why do you serve God? Perhaps you serve God because that is what your parents did. Perhaps you serve God because that is what your spouse desires. Perhaps you serve God for the sake of your children. Perhaps your reasons are less noble.
Coats of many colors – Forthright Magazine

Sometimes we just need to put on another coat of forgiveness for people who surround us. It does what a good fresh coat of pain does: it covers up the flaws, the imperfections, and most of the scars. Have we already forgiven, but been wronged again? Touch up or re-paint! Can’t seem to forgive ourselves? Put on a new coat!
Little things – Forthright Magazine

I was standing recently under the shade of a mango tree in an Asian country and noticed several flies swarming around. When I looked more closely I saw many large flies sitting on the leaves and fruit. Other insects were also flying about, but the flies were especially numerous. Almost without thinking I moved back several feet to get away from them.
We must forgive – Forthright Magazine

Forgiving others. So difficult at times, yet so necessary. We know it is important because of the number of times Jesus spoke about it and told stories that illustrated it.

Watching the greatest – Forthright Magazine
▻http://forthright.net/2019/03/19/watching-the-greatest
Who is the greatest you have ever seen? There is something special, something almost poetic in watching the greatest perform. Seen in person, a Michael Jordan fadeaway, a Messi shot on goal, a Jack Nicklaus approach shot, a Federer down-the-line running forehand, or a Willie Mayes moonshot would leave an indelible memory.
Love for self is selfishness – Forthright Magazine
▻http://forthright.net/2019/03/18/love-for-self-is-selfishness
The phrase: “lovers of themselves,” is a single word in the underlying Greek language. It is found only once in the New Testament. It stands here at the head of this list of sins. Perhaps Paul is thinking that all our transgressions flow from it.
A pearl and an apple – Forthright Magazine

What motivated the merchant was his love for the pearl. What motivates the child of God is a love for God to serve him in his church. For the faithful Christian, the church is the only place that is important in this life. All of the Christian’s thoughts and desires are for one thing and one thing only: serving God, dedicating everything to God, loving God is the pearl of great price.

The book of Esther and the lives of the people mentioned therein illustrate some powerful biblical principles.
Money wins — or does it? – Forthright Magazine

Man accomplishes so much on his own. He may even attribute it to God. But Mammon is its own god, and accomplishes what many consider to be good.
And the books were opened – Forthright Magazine

The end of winter is the time when many gardeners turn to their books. We may have been perusing seed catalogs for the last few months, and even ordered a few new varieties of tomatoes or beans to try.
At his coming – Forthright Magazine

I have recently returned to South Asia where I will be for the next few months. When I arrived I was greeted with many smiles and sincere welcomes by those whom I have known for a considerable time. It was good to be back, and they seemed very happy to have me here.
Leaving everything to follow Jesus – Forthright Magazine
▻http://forthright.net/2019/03/07/follow-jesus
I’m sure the look on Simon’s face would have been worth seeing! The haul was so great that their nets began to tear! There were so many fish that they filled both boats to the point that they were seriously close to sinking. This caused Simon to realise there was more to this itinerant teacher than met the eye.
