Local media has reported last week’s arrival of an airplane from North Korea in Dornod Province, which departed after being loaded with Mongolian cattle.
Unuudur Daily sources in the province said, “The President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj, promised to send 130 cattle to North Korea as a present during his visit to the country in late October 2013. A joint working group of members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MFA) purchased 130 cattle from Dashbalbar soum in Dornod Province at the end of December last year.”
The Veterinary Research Institute of MFA inspected the cattle and prepared certificates of origin. The plane took off for Pyongyang late at night on December 29, from Choibalsan Airport in Dornod, according to the sources.
The gift of the Mongolian cattle comes as part of President Ts.Elbegdorj’s deal with North Korea to cooperate in livestock husbandry, which was made during his last visit.
