  • Actual US Poverty Twice Official Figure
    http://truth-out.org/news/item/16693-actual-us-poverty-twice-official-figure

Jeannette Wicks-Lim [assistant research professor at PERI institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst] : according to official figures 15 percent of Americans live in poverty, real numbers are over 33 percent of Americans cannot meet basic needs.

The official poverty income threshold is about $23,000 [for a a family of four], and I’m saying about double that is a much more reasonable threshold, something on the order of $45,000, to cover the basic needs of a family of four.
