• #April_2022 … Posters and Banners – #Scientist_Rebellion
    https://scientistrebellion.com/posters-for-april-rebellion

We are #activists from a variety of scientific backgrounds, calling on our communities to stand in resistance to the genocidal direction of our governments, before it’s too late. If we scientists don’t act like we’re in an emergency, how can we expect the public to do so?

We believe scientists should be resisting on the front lines, but the #resistance must be bigger than any one group. If you are not a scientist, you are welcome – behind every action is a whole community of people supporting, creating and organising. When scientists rebel it is powerful because it inspires others to rise up. By bringing scientist and activist communities together, both are empowered.

    Where We Fit Within #Extinction_Rebellion

We work within the framework of Extinction Rebellion, following the principles and values, but adopt some new forms of organising and mobilising.

    1) Technological decentralisation. We use open source and secure technology to connect activists with others in their areas, so they can plan and carry out actions locally, with all action details fully in the hands of activists.

    2) Facilitated horizontalism. We provide action resources, guides and trainings to facilitate actions. This allows activists to completely own their actions, take initiative, and ultimately creates “mini-leaders” everywhere. It also allows for rapid growth of the movement, since there are no organisational bottlenecks.

    3) The right to act. Action is how we make our voices heard, therefore we support any non-violent action unequivocally. Strategic disagreements can tear a movement apart: we refuse to be so divided. No one knows with certainty the impacts of any action. Through application of the scientific method to activism we will discern the most effective courses. Some efforts will backfire, and we will support those unsuccessful attempts as vigorously as we support the successful, secure in the knowledge that we are working to the same goal.

Palestinian activist Nizar Banat died after Palestinian Authority security forces arrested him early this morning. He was transferred to Hebron Hospital & pronounced dead

PA arrested Nizar many times for his outspokenness against their corruption. This is their version of events

“Through repeated targeting of Banat, the PA is seeking to make an example of him that whoever criticizes/opposes its policies will be silenced. This comes as part of intimidation policy PA adopts against activists+opponents in the West Bank.”

Even the European Union’s representative in West Bank and Gaza made a statement calling on PA to “respect freedom of expression and the protection of human rights activists” after Nizar’s house was attacked by PA thugs/forces who fired stun grenades in May

The office announced on Twitter that it: “Is following with concern the attack on activist Nizar Banat’s house last night,” in the town of Dura, south of the West Bank.

“Violence against politicians and human rights defenders is unacceptable,” the EU office added.

The mission called on the PA to ensure: “Respect for freedom of expression and the protection of human rights activists.”

    Family statement:

“What happened with Nizar is a premeditated assassination. PA security forces stormed his residence at 3:30am, and 25 forces severely beat him up. He was arrested naked and taken to an unknown destination before his death was announced.”

Nizar Banat’s family are saying the Palestinian Authority is hiding his body. The family’s lawyer has demanded an autopsy to find out how exactly he died. Family said Nizar was beaten on the head with metal pieces and sticks.

      https://euromedmonitor.org/fr/article/4476/Cisjordanie-:-Euro-Med-Monitor-exige-une-enqu%C3%AAte-urgente-et-ind

Palestinians need be rid of an Authority that has become a surrogate for the occupation

Nizar Banat was deliberately murdered. The security forces that raided the outspoken activist’s home in the pre-dawn hours of Friday and beat him with iron rods in front of his wife and children were the assassins. But the main responsibility lies personally with the president of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mahmoud Abbas. A crime like this could never have been committed without his knowledge, authorisation, and incitement. The thousands of mourners who gathered at Banat’s funeral in his hometown south of Hebron on Friday were right to demand his removal and the downfall of the PA. (...)

  • Egypt : death of a Facebook activist

    http://tahrirsquared.com/node/3679

Certain that hospital officials were covering up police abuse, opposition activists began to draw parallels between Gendy and Khaled Said, the Alexandria man whom police beat to death in 2010, sparking the revolution. Soon, Gendy’s bespectacled likeness appeared in graffiti portraits on walls around Cairo.

Because Facebook is constantly changing these visibility rules and settings, it makes groups that are overly reliant on these private platforms more subject to their changing rules. (...) For social media companies to make more money, they are taking more control of their systems.

Ultimately, you can’t decide what to see, Facebook does, and now that many groups have migrated to Facebook for what listservs and Web sites have historically done, they now have to pay for that engagement. It’s classic bait and switch.

A former police spy who infiltrated the environmental movement for seven years has been hired by a private security firm in the US to give advice on how to deal with political activists.

Mark Kennedy has become a consultant to the Densus Group, providing “investigative services, risk and threat assessments”, according to an entry on his LinkedIn profile.

He says he has given lectures to firms and government bodies drawing on his experiences “as a covert operative working within extreme left political and animal rights groups throughout the UK, Europe and the US”.

Kennedy, 42, went to live in Cleveland, Ohio, after he was unmasked by activists in late 2010. He has claimed to have developed sympathies for the activists while undercover, although many campaigners have scorned this claim.
