    I. Google
    1. Sur smartphone
    a) Sur #Android :
    b) Sur #iPhone, pour #Siri et l’#IA d’#Apple :
    2. Sur #ordinateur
    II. #Twitter/X
    III. #Meta (#Facebook et #Instagram)
IV.

Do you currently run Ubuntu 24.10 on your computer but want to upgrade to the new Ubuntu 25.04 release to benefit from its (many) changes? As long as you’re full up-to-date and have a working internet connection, you can upgrade to Ubuntu 25.04 directly – no need to do download an ISO, flash it to a USB stick and do a clean install. And upgrading soon is a good idea. Ubuntu 24.10 supports ends in July, and those using it after that date will need to upgrade to Ubuntu 25.04 to continue receiving security updates. When you log in to Ubuntu 24.10 an audio clip plays to greet you — a lengthy audio clip that slowly builds to a plinky-plonky crescendo that you—or those around you—may tire of having to sit through! But you can turn Ubuntu’s startup sound off, or swap it for an audio clip more to your tastes. Startup and login sounds were a staple part of Ubuntu during its formative years, but the distro decided to disable them in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS after getting feedback that, actually, they could be a bit annoying. #How_To Disable ‘App is Ready’ Notifications in Ubuntu

Finding yourself annoyed at those ‘window is ready’ notifications which pop-up when you open some apps in #gnome_shell on Ubuntu? If so, you can disable them by installing a GNOME Shell extension. Now, notifications are helpful—heck, vital when they inform, alert, or indicate that something requires our immediate attention or actioning. But “app is ready” notifications? I don’t find them anything other than obvious. I’m not amnesic; I know the app is ready – I just opened it! They aren’t predictable either. Some apps show them, others don’t. It depends on the app’s metadata, how fast app initialisation is (you’ll see them more […] You’re reading How to Disable ‘App is Ready’ Notifications in Ubuntu, a blog post from OMG! Ubuntu. Do you use the official Spotify DEB on Ubuntu (or an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution like Linux Mint)? If so, you’ll be used to receiving updates to the Spotify Linux client direct from the official Spotify APT repo, right alongside all your other DEB-based software. Thing is: if you haven’t checked for updates from the command line recently you might not be aware the that security key used to ‘sign’ packages from the Spotify APT repo stopped working at the end of last year. Want to Install Snap Apps in #Linux_Mint? Here’s How
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/11/how-to-install-snaps-in-linux-mint

Snap is Canonical’s universal package format for Linux. It lets developers build their software once for users across multiple Linux distributions to use. At least, that’s the theory. In reality, few Linux distributions outside of the Ubuntu ecosphere support #Snaps out of the box. Most do carry the underlying Snap daemon package (snapd) in their repositories, making it possible for users who want to use snaps, to do so. Linux Mint takes a different approach, however. Ubuntu-based it may be, inheriting the Ubuntu repos and benefitting from ongoing bug, security, and other patches from Canonical’s engineers, but Mint has a […] You’re reading Want to Install Snap Apps in Linux Mint? How do you archive online data ?

There’s one feature in the Nautilus file manager I use daily: the Recent files shortcut. One-click gives me access to my most recently downloaded, modified, and newly created files together, regardless of the folder they’re in. I find it dead handy – but I can accept that it’s dead revealing too. Which is why not everyone likes this functionality. While individual files can be hidden from view manually, that’s effort. Sensitive documents, secret projects, risqué media with revealing thumbnails (you know I mean) can easily, if accidentally appear on screen. Zotero hacks : reliably setup unlimited storage for you personal academic library

    https://ikashnitsky.phd/2024/zotero7/zotero-teaser.png

    About this tutorial

In summer 2024, Zotero had a major update to version 7. The update affected some of the setup routines that I outlined ages ago in the Zotero hacks post. The recipe laid out in that old post helped me painlessly update, move, and maintain my Zotero library for more than a decade; and judging by feedback it did so for many dozens of my friends, colleagues, and just occasional people who found the tutorial useful. It became easily the most viewed post in my blog. Now, with the recent update of Zotero, I decided to update the tutorial as well, but I’m keeping the old post untouched in case someone needs the routine that worked reliably for ages.

The essence of the tutorial stays the same – it shows how to organize a personal academic library of unlimited size for free. Here I only slightly update some steps of the setup, refresh the screenshots, and provide occasional comments from 20241.

Do you want to try the latest Thunderbird 128 release but don’t want to use the snap package available in Ubuntu? Your first thought might be to run sudo apt install thunderbird to install the DEB version of Thunderbird from the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS repos. But like Firefox and Chromium, the Thunderbird DEB package in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is a transition package. When you install that package it installs the Thunderbird snap (and reinstalls snapd, if that has been removed). So in this guide I’m going to show you how to replace the Thunderbird snap with a DEB version from […] You’re reading How to Install Thunderbird DEB on Ubuntu 24.04 (Not Snap), a blog post from OMG! I recently rediscovered my Amazon #kindle (a geriatric model from 2012, nothing fancy) and figured, as it still works, I’ll use it, and set about downloading a freely available EPUBs of classic (and not-so-classic – I’m a pulpy-kinda guy) literature. They say never judge a book by its cover – but it is useful to be able to distinguish a book by its cover! Thing is: my old Amazon Kindle can’t open #epub files1 so I have to use the open-source eBook tool #Calibre to convert them into the AZW3 format my ancient Kindle prefers, or the MOBI format which […] You’re reading How to Display eBook Thumbnails in Nautilus (Quick Tip), a blog post from OMG! Keep Losing #OneDrive File Access in Ubuntu 24.04? Here’s a Fix

Of the (many) handy new features in #Ubuntu_24.04_LTS is the ability to access OneDrive files through the Nautilus file manager as a remote mount. This is made possible by the msgraph package, a new gvfs backend that Nautilus can use, account integration through GNOME Online Accounts (GOA), and Microsoft giving GNOME the relevant permission and approvals. And while the file-access feature isn’t obvious to set up, it’s easy once you know how. It works with both regular Microsoft OneDrive accounts and OneDrive accounts provided for and/or managed by an organisation such as your work. As a ‘turn key’ […] You’re reading Keep Losing OneDrive File Access in Ubuntu 24.04? Here’s a Fix, a blog post from OMG! Ubuntu. Do not reproduce elsewhere without (...)
