Situated in a region where population movements involving waves of refugees and displaced persons are tragically frequent, informal settlements have become an intimate part of post-independence Lebanon.
One of these informal communities, located in Lebanon’s second city of Tripoli, is Hay al-Tanak (Quarter of Tin, meaning tin roofs). The neighborhood is the subject of Sharif Abdunnur’s 20-minute documentary “Tin Roof Ghetto in Tripoli,” which just had its Lebanon premiere at the American University of Beirut.
