The documents show concerns within the Saudi administration over the social upheavals of 2011, which became known in the international media as the “Arab Spring”. The cables note with concern that after the fall of Mubarak, coverage of the upheavals in Egyptian media was “being driven by public opinion instead of driving public opinion”. The Ministry resolved “to give financial support to influential media institutions in Tunisia”, the birthplace of the “Arab Spring”.

WikiLeaks Says It’s Leaking Over 500,000 Saudi Documents
▻http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/06/19/world/middleeast/ap-ml-wikileaks-saudi-cables.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone
The AP was able to partially verify a handful of documents’ authenticity by calling the telephone numbers included in many of them. WikiLeaks spokesman Kristinn Hrafnsson told AP he was confident that the material was genuine.
It is not clear how WikiLeaks got the documents, although in its statement the website referred to a recent electronic attack on the Saudi Foreign Ministry by a group calling itself the Yemen Cyber Army. Hrafnsson declined to elaborate on the statement or say whether the hackers subsequently passed documents on to WikiLeaks.
►http://www.lorientlejour.com/article/930572/wikileaks-sattaque-a-larabie-saoudite-quelques-revelations-sur-le-lib

WikiLeaks ’Saudi Cables’ reveal secret Saudi government influence in Australia
▻http://www.smh.com.au/national/wikileaks-saudi-cables-reveal-secret-saudi-government-influence-in-australia
The leaked Saudi government documents include extensive correspondence between the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Kingdom’s embassy in Canberra that reveals sustained Saudi efforts to influence political and religious opinion within Australia’s Arabic and Islamic communities.
The documents include instructions from the Saudi government to its embassy relating to the payment of large subsidies from the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information to prominent Arabic newspapers and media organisations in Australia, with reference made to cheques to the value of $10,000 and $40,000.
The Saudi embassy is also revealed to pay close attention to the political and religious beliefs of Saudi university students studying in Australia with reports sent to the Mabahith, the General Investigation Directorate of the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the Kingdom’s brutal secret police that deals with domestic security and counter-intelligence. The directorate is also revealed to make recommendations in relation to Saudi government funding for building mosques and supporting Islamic community activities in Australia.
The documents show the Sunni kingdom’s strong concern about efforts by Shiite Islamic leaders to engage with the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils and the kingdom’s funding of visits to Australia by Sunni Islamic clerics to counter Shiite influence.

The cables reveal that the government employs a different approach for its own domestic media. There, a wave of the Royal hand is all that is required to adjust the output of state-controlled media. A complaint from former Lebanese Prime Minister and Saudi citizen Saad Hariri concerning articles critical of him in the Saudi-owned Al-Hayat and Asharq Al-Awsat newspapers prompted a directive to “stop these type of articles” from the Foreign Ministry.

Are corrupt Africans really ruining #FIFA?
We all know, thanks to the English FA chairman #Greg_Dyke and many other bigoted media commentators, that corruption at FIFA is caused by small African nations where greed is.....
#AFRICA_IS_A_COUNTRY #Branko_Milanovic #Chuck_Blazer #Gerhard_Shroder #Germany #Saudi_Arabia #Sepp_Blatter #Thierry_Henry
the man who runs English football (and used to run the BBC) had this to say:
[The investigation into FIFA] is not colonialism at all. But there is no doubt that there are a set of values which you find in western Europe, and in America, and in Australia, that don’t apply everywhere. My experience in Africa is that when people go into politics in Africa, it’s incumbent upon you as part of that to look after your family. That’s just cultural, it’s a cultural difference.
Of course politicians in predominantly white countries that aren’t Africa have no interest at all in “looking after” their families. Everybody knows this, right?
Just look at the Clintons, for example. Virtually destitute at this point, are the Clintons. They got so poor due to their devotion to selfless and low-paid public service that they had to start relying on meagre multi-million dollar donations to the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation to scrape a living.
Or the Bushes. One of the Bushes became president and the rest have been left to languish in obscurity. The Bush boys had to make do with a string of menial jobs — running oil companies, owning baseball teams, governing the states of Florida and Texas, being the President of America etc — because their father was a man of such unstinting probity that he simply wouldn’t countenance his kids getting any advantages over common folk.
Nope, it’s definitely just the Africans who “look after their family.”

A War in Which the Only Victors are AQAP and the Islamic State
After ten weeks of bombing that have resulted in 2000 deaths, over half of which are civilian casualties, and billions of dollars in damage to infrastructure and private property, the Saudi-led war has achieved little beyond igniting a civil war that neither side can win, regardless of the backing they receive from outside powers [...].
The Saudi-led war and its naval blockade of Yemen’s ports have already resulted in what is Yemen’s most serious, and first, nationwide humanitarian crisis. More than 60 percent of Yemenis are now in need of humanitarian assistance, and there are 545,000 internally displaced persons (United Nations, May 18). Yemen’s already limited state services have collapsed. The war has produced the conditions in which groups like AQAP and the Islamic State thrive.

The #Saudis are bombing #Yemen because they fear the Shia #Houthis are working for the Iranians. The Saudis are also bombing Isis in Iraq and the Isis in #Syria. So are the United Arab Emirates. The Syrian government is bombing its enemies in Syria and the Iraqi government is also bombing its enemies in Iraq. America, France, Britain, Denmark, Holland, Australia and – believe it or not – Canada are bombing Isis in Syria and Isis in Iraq, partly on behalf of the Iraqi government (for which read Shia militias) but absolutely not on behalf of the Syrian government.
The Jordanians and Saudis and Bahrainis are also bombing Isis in Syria and Iraq because they don’t like them, but the Jordanians are bombing Isis even more than the Saudis after their pilot-prisoner was burned to death in a cage. The #Egyptians are bombing parts of Libya because a group of Christian Egyptians had their heads chopped off by what might – notionally – be the same so-called Islamic State, as Isis refers to itself. The Iranians have acknowledged bombing Isis in Iraq – of which the Americans (but not the Iraqi government) take a rather dim view.
