‘Ridiculous’: Israel’s leadership will never engage in Palestinian state talks
Gideon Levy, an Israeli columnist and political commentator, says the project of Israel is to avoid any possibility of a Palestinian state.
The comments come after a chorus of international calls by world leaders for negotiations for an independent state of Palestine based on 1967 borders to once-and-for-all end the conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated his opposition to an independent Palestinian state, saying his country needs full security control over the occupied Palestinian territories.
“Netanyahu did anything possible – and succeeded by the way – to put the Palestinian problem off the table for many years until October 7 came and reminded him he cannot continue with this forever,” Levy told Al Jazeera.
“To expect him to get into negotiations over a Palestinian state is ridiculous.”

‘Enough is enough’: Time for world leaders to impose Palestinian statehood
Gideon Levy, an Israeli columnist and political commentator, says there’s a great opportunity for the international community to step in and finally end Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territory.
“Israel refused for decades, even before Netanyahu, to go for a real settlement for the Palestinian problem. Therefore, it is time for the international community to say, ‘Enough is enough,’” Levy told Al Jazeera.
Israel launches wars every few years and destroys Gaza, and then the international community must fund its rehabilitation, he said.
“It puts risk over the whole world as all kinds of other tensions rise because of the conflict in Gaza. The international community should say enough leaving it to Israel. It is time for the international community to impose a solution. Otherwise, it will go on like this forever.”
